iniRf (j—THK NKWS—May 1979 Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah Temple Beth El Happenings The Southern Seaboard Region of Hadassah will hold its eighteenth annual Conference May 14 thru 16 at the Sheraton Center in Charlotte. The theme of the conference is “Pathways to Peace.” Linda (Mrs. Joel) Fleishman, president of the Southern Seaboard Region, will be attending the entire conference. Highlight of the conference will be a banquet Tuesday evening with Major General George J. Keegan (USAF, ret.) as the guest speaker. General Keegan is attached to the Pentagon and will speak on “Israel Today.” Mr. Rolfe Neill, publisher of The Charlotte Observer and The Charlotte News, will be the recipient of the “Myrtle Wreath Award.” Gail (Mrs. Edward) Green is president of the Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah, and local conference chairmen are Judi (Mrs. Leonard) Strause and Deane (Mrs. Larry) Boxer. All members of Hadassah and friends are cordially invited to attend all the events. Schedule of Events MONDAY, May 14: Registration. Regional board meeting from 2 to 4:30 p.m. (“Cinema Clip Parade”). At 6 p.m. dinner for delegates only. I delegates will board buses at 8 p.m. for the Mint Museum of History to view the Judaica Exhibit followed by a workshop on Zionist and American affairs entitled “Don’t Step on My Olive Branch” with Mrs. Marvin Senter presiding. A reception at 10 p.m. will conclude the day’s activities. TUESDAY, May 15; Presidents’ breakfast at 8 a.m. At 9 a.m. workshops in the areas of education, membership and program ming entitled “Gates to Learning” presided by Mrs. Steve Firestone. Lunch at nopn followed by a fund-raising workshop at 1:30 p.m., “Pave the Way with Silver,” Mrs. Arthur Eden presiding. At 3:30 p.m. “The View Around the Bend,” a youth activities workshop consisting of a dialogue dealing with the cult phenomenon, conducted by Mr. Norm Olshansky. The delegates’ and Big Gifts receptions will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by a ban quet at 7:30 p.m. Closing reception at 10:30 p.m. WEDNESDAY, May 16: President’ breakfast at 8 a.m. At 9 a.m. workshops entitled “^st Stops” (tourism, bulletin, media, visual aids, speakers bureau, and Aliyah). At 10:30 a.m. “Follow the Leader” (leadership development workshop) with Emma Retchin. The closing luncheon at 12:15 p.m. will feature the Myrtle Wreath Award presentation, guest speaker, Dr. Benson R. Wilcox, chief of the division of cardiothoracic surgery, UNC School of Medicine, and installation of regional officers. We owe our gratitude to Ethel Goodhart who so graciously made the arrangements. At the meeting on March 12th Marvin Bienstock paid tribute to Bertha Wand, one of our dear ly beloved members, who recent ly passed away. Marvin was joined by many of Bertha’s • friends who sadly miss her. A new member, Kate Shaner, joined our group being in troduced by Leah liss. Horty Fogelson also introduced a new member, Anna Borabeck. We welcome both members and hope that they become active participants. Ethel Person, a representative of Duke Power, attended our meeting on March 19. She show ed a movie and explained to the group how to save money on our electrical appliances while us ing them for our daily needs. She also handed out a list of suggestions for -this. Later, Channel 36 visited and showed us the signing of the Peace Trea ty. Pictures were taken and some of the members were inter viewed which was later shown that evening on TV. On Mardh 26, Sue Ferguson showed a movie of people of different nationalities whose handiwork consisted of weav ing and other arts and crafts. She also showed us her own work, such as, appliqueing and weaving and a l^autiful quilt which she designed.
