Devorah Group of Hadassah
On Sunday, July 29th, Bobby
Pollard thought she was back in
Piccadilly, former New Yorkers
thought they were boarding the
Fifth Avenue bus and the
natives were astounded as the
Devorah group of Hadassah
with their families and friends,
climbed on the WBT double
decker bus for an outing atTeg'a
Cay. Don and Ronnie Herman
served as host and hostess as
well as Indian guides on the
“Summer Interlude.” The Her
man’s yacht, well, motor boat,
took the attending Hadassah
people around Lake Wiley after
‘gesunde’ picnic lunches were
enjoyed by all.
On Wednesday, August 15 a
newcomers coffee was held at
the home of Mrs. Richard (Jane)
Goodman. Mrs. Ed (Gail)
Greene, president of Hadassah
chapter, and Mrs. Sam (Alice)
Schreiber, president of Devorah
(the evening group) spoke on the
importance of Hadassah and
told of the activities of the two
groups. Anyone wishing to join
Hadassah please contact Gail
Greene (542-0308) for day
meetings and Alice Schreiber
(364'*8824) for evening meetings.
Devorah meetings are held on
the second Wednesday of the
month. The first meeting of the
year will be an entertaining skit
welcoming the new members.
The date for the membership
meeting will be September 12,
and we welcome guests. The
meeting will take place in the
lyy Room of the JCC at 8 p.m.
JCC Corner
Labor Day Festivities
The JCC will hold its Labor
Day Festivities on Sunday,
September 2nd. the CHAI
Group, which is a self-
supporting group of 'Seniors,
vyill hold a BAKE SALE star
ting at 12 p.m. All items will be
home-made by the Seniors and
the proceeds will go to support
their continuing programs. At 2
p.m. there will be a variety of
family activities such as water-
raft races, water-volleyball and
the ever-popular water-balloon'
toss. At 3 p.m. the CHAI Group
will hold its annual Raffle. The
prizes include an original water-
color donated by Beverly
Howard, talented local artist,
and a beautiful afghan and
matching pillow made and
donated by Sylvia Sadoff. If you
have not already purchtised
tickets for the raffle, you may do
so at the JCC. Tickets are 50P
apiece and twelve for $5. The
money raised by the CHAI
Group will go directly to the
Building Fund of the JCC. At
4:30 p.m. Jimmy of Deli-Town
will serve a fried-chicken box
supper at the incredibly low
price of $2/adults and
$1/children. Reservations must
be in by Friday, August 31st, so
call the “J” today to' reserve
your place.* We’re looking
forward to the biggest turnout
ever - so celebrate Labor Day at
the “J” and remember the date:

. Bowling League
To Form
The Jewish Community
Center is currently forming a
couples bowling league. It will
begin in October, and will be
held at Park Lanes on Sunday
evenings at 8:30 p.m. The cost
will be $6 per couple/per week.

Summer was great with
Rebecca Barnette as our pro.
The Junior Leagues in Queen
City had fun and our Junior
Boys Division II came out in
first place. Congratulations
guys!

Cancer Society Tournament
will be held Saturday morning

A tennis clinic is being planned
for the Women’s B Team and
will be held on a Thursday mor
ning. Team members will be
notified of the date and time.
There will also be a tennis
meeting with the A and C teams
before the matches being to dis
cuss all pertinent information
before the start of the season.
The tennis ladder is posted on
the outside bulletin board and
lists all positions. If anyone has

Symphony Lovers
The Chai Group at the JCC
has been donated 25 tickets for
the coming symphony season
by Fred Stem. This is a
marvelous opportunity for the
group to enjoy the wonderful
sounds of our tine symphony.
However, some of the members
of Chai do not drive and need
transportation.

Farewell To
Summer
On Sunday, September
16th the JCC will hold a
“Farewell to Summer”
FAMILY SWIM and picnic.
This is the last week-end that
the pools will be open and all
JCC members are cordially
invited to bring a picnic
lunch (after Sunday School),
and come for an afternoon of
family fun to bid a fond
farewell to summer.
Ha Lailah BBW
Ha Lailah’s Janet Rubin will
be a TV star on Jim Patterson’s
show, “This Morning”, Sept. 11,
at 6:16 a.m. Janet will appear
with Bill Duane, who is working
with Ha Lailah Chapter on a
fund raising project. Mr. Duane
is a cosmetologist at Chere Amie
Beauty Salon and will donate a
percentage of his profits to the
chapter if a client mentions
BBW.
During the program Janet
will explain what B’nai B’rith
Women as an organization does,
service projects and the
necessary fund raising. Fund
raising helps support the
philanthropies of the national
organization, such as the
Children’s Home in Israel.
Be sure to see the show and
register for the class, “Make
over Magic” Mr. Duane will be
teaching at the JCC. And, when
you make an appointment with
him at Chere Amie remember to
mention BBW.
Women’s American CRT will
join with World CRT Union in
celebrating its 100 years of ser
vice to the Jewish people. In the
course of its existance over two
million people in almost 50
countries were served by CRT.
Its programs now enroll over
100,000 youth and adults as well
as large numbers of Soviet
Jewish refugees in 24 countries.
In Israel CRT serves as the
national resource for the crea-
tipn of the skilled and technical
work-force that is basic to sur
vival and economic develop
ment. CRT enrolls the greater
part of Israel’s high school
generation, over 60,000 in 95
schools throughout the country.
The Charlotte Chapter of
CRT is beginning to celebrate
the Centennial Year by meeting
membership goals early. Be a
