These days it’s ceramics that are getting all fired up at the JCC thanks to the latest generous gift from Lynn Lemer and Yours Truly Needle point — a professional ceramics kiln. Over the past year the fine art of working with clay has become an important element in the children’s program. Under the direction of skilled potter Cathy Seiderman, miniature masterpieces have been shaped by eager young hands. Until recently Cathy was forced to carefully pack and transport the creations to places like Spirit Square, and it had to be done not once, but twice. The first time was to fire the clay itself and the second time to fire the glazes which give the objects their final color. In order to find a solution the JCC turned to Yours Truly Needlepoint and to Lynn Lerner. Her non-profit business is really in the business of mak ing dreams come true through contributions of needed items to Temples, the Academy and the JCC. It took careful research but in the end a truck pulled up to the little house next door to the main building and a gleaming kiln was unloaded and in stalled. Thanks to Lynn and her assistant Sharon -Apfel, the ceramics program c&n now serve adults and senior adults as well as continuing to inspire creativity in the children.
