Mickey Aberman CHAI BBG
For the past few weeks the
members of Mickey | Aberman
Chapter have been yhry active
in community seryice. The
Arthur Goodman ^Memorial
Park in Matthews will, have a
new look as the membership is
building two picnic tallies and a
barbecue grill. !
Cerebral Palsy has* moved
from its former quarters at the
Wachovia Centeii to the
American Credit Building. Ten
of the members were responsible'
for transfering all the . office
equipment such as pmiture
and filing cabinet. The
Chapter will again help the C.P.
Foundation at itsl annual
telethon in January.,
The chapter has been having
most of its meetings at Beth
Shalom. In appreciwion for
their kindness in permitting
them to use the prepiises, the
members built the con*
gregation’s succah.
A Halloween party in coopera
tion with Chaverim chapter was
held for the children of Thomp
son Orphanage.
The treasury is $100 richer
because the AIT’S worked many
hours sorting shoes at Simon’s
Formal Wear.

Chai-BBG is off to an exciting
and busy start this year. Nine
new members (MITs) are being
taught all about BBG’s struc
ture, activities, and goals. Each
has been teamed with an older
member (our Big Sister - Little
Sister program). Sisters can car-
pool to meetings, go out to lunch
together, and just become better
firiends.
Most of our members-in-
training attended MIT-AIT con
vention on Oct. 19-21. At this
convention they got to know
other BBYOers from other
cities, as well as gaining a better
knowledge of what BBYO is all
about.
We are currently working on
our newspaper, scrapbook,
banner, and songs which will be
entered in contests at Winter
Cultural. Convention this
month. Oyr parents will be in
formed about BBYO at a Parent
Orientation Program. Our ad
visor, Toby Silber, was treated
to a fun-filled evening at
Farrell’s.

ORT 1880-1980
This year we celebrate 100
years of service of the Jewish
people through ORT, the
vocational and technical educa
tion program that has been a liv
ing part of the history of the
/ Jewish people for a century — a
force for change, a powerful
tighter for human dignity, and a
source of hope.
During the month of
November we set aside one week
and concentrate on ORT educa
tion. The seventh day of that
week we call ORT Sabbath.
What better way is there to end
one century and begin a new
century, of serving Jewish peo
ple, sustaining communities,
transforming lives, providing
security, and helping the up
rooted and displaced, by
worshiping together?

CHAI
Thanks to the efforts of Ilsa
Bergen who started off this
season with a refreshing new
program called “Finding
Oneself’, which comes under
the topic of Human Relations.
This program will run for eleven
weeks.
The lecturer, Ms. Sharon
Collins, is a very vigorous
young lady who typifies the
program. Mainly, I guess, we
like to listen to her because she
could be one of our grand
daughters.
Ms. Collins comes well
qualified. is a graduate of
UNCC, has attended UNOG,
and is currently with CPCC on
the Council for Nursing and
Medical Studies.
Every other Monday, after
lunch,| Miss Nancy Lowe will
start something new, but right
now, she is working out with us
on arranging the programs we
want.
On October 15th, Dr. Stetner
spoke about the forthcoming
Symphony Concerts. We will
utilize our free season tickets but
need some good-hearted people
to volunteer to drive our group to
and from these concerts. Please
call Ilsa Bergen at 366-0300 if
■you can do this. We sui-e ap
preciate it!
Thought for'the month: the
words ‘‘senior citizen” are not
synonomous with “senile
citizen”.
