I Page 11-THE NEWS—February 198* Blue Ridge Camp & Resort To Make Presentation at JCC Blue Ridge Camp & Resort is a mountain of fun for boys and girls located in Mountain City, Ga. Children, ages 7-16, play and work in a spirit of American Jewish tradition at this summer camp set on 250 rustic, pine>clad acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. There are two crystal spring-fed manmade lakes - one two acre lake for swimming and one 10 acre lake for boating. Blue Ridge Camp & Resort provides comfortable living with all modem bungalows with carpeted floors and individual bathroom with hot shower facilities. Tliis is a Kosher camp which observes Shabbat Friday night and Saturday morning. The children have a choice of a traditional or reform service but must go to one or the other. The theme throughout is Jewish liv* ing. There will be a regular eight week session firom June 23 ■ August 17 and two four week sessions - June 23 to July 20 and July 21 to August 17. Primarily a sports camp, Blue Ridge Camp & Resort offers an excellent water ski program (with a 100% success record), sailing, daily in structional and free swim (re quired), horseback riding, canoeing, motor biking, go- carting, fishing, riflery, rowing, golf, tennis, archery, softball, football, soccer, judo, wrestling, gym, ping pong, basketball and much more. There are four activity periods each day. Two are required Youth Summer Experience In Israel JCC-JWB Summer Ex perience in Israel for youth is more than a tour of Israel. It is an involvement with the con tinuity of Jewish history and an opportunity to engage in a “peo ple to people” experience between American youth and the young people of Israel. The program is a forty day excursion into the life of a nation. It is a stimulating adventure with “Am Israel” - the peoplehood of Israel. The program is open to high school students, ages 15-18 and is conducted by JWBin coopera tion with The American Zionist Youth Foundation. There are three programs; June 24-Aug. 3, July 1-Aug. 10 and July 8-Aug. 17. The price is $1578 plus a $25 non-refundable registration fee, and is subject to change. Medical certification of good health is required for accep tance. The itinerary includes visiting all major cities and cultural sights; home hospitali ty with an Israeli family^ visiting a kibbutz or a moshav; exploring Massada, the Golan and the Negev, and an extended stay in Jerusalem. The itinerary also includes several options so that the individual Centers can (instruction and free swim) and two are chosen by the campers. The activity periods change every three days. In addition to all the activities listed above there are optional overnight hikes,, an overnight fort, a wagon train village with three covered wagons, an observation lookout, an Indian village, a calico gold mining camp, two sleeping tree houses and a third wilJi cooking facilities, trips to Six Flags, Maggie Valley, an Atlanta Braves game and other local sightseeing around the camp. Blue Ridge Camp & Resort is staffed with qualified counselors, aids and instructors with a ratio of one counselor to every three children. The staff aides are 17 and 18 and the up per staff must have complete one year of college. The enroll ment is Umited to 200 and the camp draws children from all over the Southeast.
