We have a team of 7, 8, & 9 year olds sponsored by Swimmer Insurance and a team of 10 & 11 year olds sponsored by the Family Dollar Stores. The 7, 8, & 9 team is coach ed by Morey Scheffer and Bob Hawkens. The team practices on Tuesday after noons and plays Saturday afternoons at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Park Home Little League Field. Our 10 and 11 year olds are coached by Mikje Klein and Bob Trittin. They practice on Wednesday afternoons and play Satur day at 4:30 at Garinger High School. Because w^re play ing in such an outstanding league, we felt it necessary to have regulation soccer goals for our players to practice. The following should be thanked for contributing towards these goals, which we will take with us to the new Foundation Project: Bob Abel, Mark Bernstein, Herman Blumenthal, Bill Gorelick, Harry Lerner, Alvin Levine, Jerry Levin and Morris Speizman. You are cordially invited to come and cheer for either or both teams. We will be playing on Saturdays until the weekend of November 26 with the weekend of the 19th beginning our end-of-season tournament. COME JOIN US - IT’S FUN! The undersigned members issued the follow ing statement: As Christian theologians we share in the worldwide anguish over the recent massacres in West Beirut. Relentless calls to establish accountability have been issued, particularly with respect to the role of Israeli authorities in these tragic events. We believe that the time has come for us to engage in careful reflection. It is clear to us that the voices of cons cience are mixed with a chorus of cynicism, hypocrisy and bigotry. The history of antisemitism demonstrates that the world has too often remained silent in the face of atrocities ex cept when Israel stands ac cused. We have observed that people who in the case of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, as in the case of LyLai and Cam bodia and the atrocities com mitted by the PLO have re mained silent, are now stridently ra'sing their voices in condemnation of Israel. We have observed also that little or no criticism has been levelled against the real perpetrators of the massacres, the Phalangists, a Christian militia. We note how many of our Jewish sisters and brothers in the U.S. and Israel have called for an accounting for the massacres in Lebanon regardless of where the blame may fall. In Israel we have seen a free and democratic society engaged in a struggle of conscience, an increasingly rare phenomenon among the family of nations. How many other memebers of the United Nations would engage in such public self- examination? As our Israeli friends en dure this painful soul sear ching we stand with them in full understanding and com passion, while at the same time we as Christians con fess our own sins of silence, hostility and indifference which have so often con tributed to these tragic situa tions. Taking these words from our common scriptures, we pray with the Psalmist, “PEACE BE UPON ISRAEL.” Sr. Rose Thering Sr. Ann Patrick Ware Dr. William Weiler Dr. Franklin Sherman Prof. John T.
