Charlotte Chapter for the
Best Chapter Meeting with a
Temple Beth El Youth
For those of you who
thought the Beth El Temple
Youth Group was on the
decline: Look again! Of
course, as with all other
groups of this nature, we
have to expect the usual
dwindlings of attendance
and membership toward the
beginning of the summer
vacation. However, BETY
has been able to hold two get-
togethers just before most
people began to leave town
for whatever vacation plans
they might have had.
The first event took place
at the house of the youth
group’s advisors, Mark and
Cathy Katz. The aim of that
meeting was to show pro
spective members what BE
TY is all about and to in
troduce them to some of the
ideas that the current youth
group has for the upcoming
year. The Katzs made
spaghetti for all those who
attended and later a slide
show was presented to show
all of the aspects of BETY
and its mother organization,
MAFTY.
The second get-together
was a pool party at Jason
Foodman’s house. Although
the main purpose was just to
swim and have fun, there
was time for questions to be
asked and new members to
be introduced to the group.
We’d like to thank Mark
and Cathy Katz for the use of
their house and for making
food for us that night, and
also the parents of Jason
Foodman, Lance and Lenore
Deutsch, for the use of their
pool.
So, all you rising ninth
through twelfth graders, get
ready for the Beth El Temple
Youth Group; we’ve got a lot
for you to do next year!

“Our million dollar goal is
more than an idea, it is a
necessity,” says Ron Katz.
“As a growing Jewish com
munity, leading the nation in
pointing the way for the
preservation of Judaism in
small cities, Charlotte needs
to reach the million dollars
in order to carry out the local
plan while still meeting our
obligations nationally and in
Israel.
“We know from the way in
which the community
responded in 1983 to both the
Federation/UJA Campaign
and to the Community Pro
ject Campaign that this goal
is attainable. Working
together, men and women
from all aspects of our com
munity life, we will make
1984 the million dollar year.”
