Pag* 7-THE NEWS-AufiMt 1M Swim Team Wins MAC Spirit Award The Jewish Community Center Swim Team finished the 1983 season with the honored Mecklenburg Aquatic Club (MAC) TEAM Spirit Award. Sporting three wins and three losses over* all, the team went into the league meet full of spirit. They placed fourth in both the relay and the league meet. To celebrate this fine season the swim team and the tennis team will hold its Annual Swim • Tennis Team Banquet Thursday, August 25 at 6 p.m. at the JCC. Reservations are needed for the banquet no later than Friday, August 19. Swim Team members attend at no charge. Fees for other family members are $1.75 for children under 5 years old and $2.25 for everyone else. Call the JCC (366-0357) to make your reservations. Fifteen people maneuvered rafts on the warm sunny day trip which kept them waterborn for nearly three hours. Warming up at lunch in the outdoor center restaurant, they then made their way back to Charlotte by nightfall. Another trip has been organized for August 7 to the French Broad River near Asheville. More Information Forthcoming The Chai Group finished its “Man, Animals and Nature” class in late June bringing to a close another of Judy Tager’s fine CPCC courses. July 11 featured a belated grand finale to that course with a morning jaunt to Discovery Place. Moving into the CPCC summer quarter, Chai began a cultural arts class, again with Judy Tager. A broad spectrum of arts is explored through music, visual arts and dance. The group plans to take some other day ex cursions during the summer. Chai Raffle This year’s Chai Raffle will be held on September 5. Each year, Chai Group, as partners with the JCC, donates the prizes for the raffle and this year Chai Group member, Sylvia Sadoff, has created a beautiful heirloom afghan. In addition to the afghan, Lina Levine has created a framed paper and fabric col lage. Both these iterfs are of fered as prizes in the raffle and the funds raised are used to help Chai Group meet their programming needs. There will be a letter for thcoming explaining the cost of the tickets, which will also be enclosed.
