T Israeli Students Visit Cliarlotte Sigal Rsz and Yuval Tal, two Israeli students, will be visiting Charlotte from March 11-18. This will be their first stop on a planned itinerary of the United States. Sigal will be staying with the Mond family and Yuval will be staying with the Somers- tein family. Following are their bios as they have submitted them. Page 13-THE NEWS-March, 1984 Yuval Tal I was bom in Ramat-Gan on Sept. 5,1967. I am the eldest of three children in my family. In 1972 we moved to St. Louis, MO., where I studied the first grade in the Hebrew Academy, a school which belongs to the Orthodox stream. In 1974 we moved to San Francisco, Cal., and there I studied in the third and fourth grades in the Hebrew Academy. ’ We returned to Israel in 1976, first to Ramat* Gan and after a year to Beer- Sheva. I graduated from the “Reout” elementary school in 1980 and continued my studies in the “Makif Aleph” high school, from which I will graduate at the end of this school year. My activities besides school included a two year course for Science-Loving-Youth on com puters in Ben Gurion Univer sity in the years 1979-1980. Since 19801 am pla}dng a flute in the music conservatory of Beer-Sheva. Since 1977 I am devoting considerable time to chess within the local chess club. In the summer of 1979 I participated in a summer course on chess and computers in the Weizmann Institute of Science. Over the years I won several titles in national youth championships. Besides music and chess my hobbies include foot tours of the country with the Nature Preservation Society, but especially with a few close friends, and I like to read books. I am also interested in bi(^ogy. In the summer of 1982 I participated in a sum mer school on microbiology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. At present, I am doing a research project on the stability of potato plants in salty soils in the laboratory of Prol Moshe Tal at the Ben Gurion University. In school I was usually ac tive in organizing events. Last year I participated in the regional and national con gresses on Zionism as one of my school’s delegates. Sigal Raz My name is Sigal Raz. I was bom on April 10,1967 in Lon don, England, where my parents, both born in Israel, spent a couple of years. When I was six months old, we returned to Israel and ever since I have been living in Kiryat-Bialik, a suburb of Haifa. I have two younger sisters, aged thirteen and eight. I went to the local kindergarten and elementary school, and now I am in high school, 11th grade. The main subject I have taken is com puters. Apart from my routine studies at school, I par ticipated in special courses in the Israeli Institute of Technology, for a period of six years. Each year I took a dif ferent subject: biology, com puters, astrophysics, special methods in mathematics, chemistry and appliance of science in medicine. For six years (ages 10-16) I was a member of a Youth Movement — “Mabanot Haolim”, and I served as an instructor for the younger members. My main hobby is dancing, to which I dedicate most of my free time. I take dancing lessons five times a week: BaUet, modem dance, jazz and folk dancing. Besides dancing, I like to read, mostly science fiction. My plans for the near future are to complete my studies in high school and to serve two years in the army. I have not made up my mind yet which profession to choose. I would either like to study medicine or an academic profession which deals with helping people, or I may become a dancer and dan cing teacher, or a choreographer.
