Congressman Jim Mar tin, (R-NC) announced that he has cosponsored a Congres sional R^lution in support of Soviet Jewry “as a symbol of our continuing commitment to those who want to leave the Soviet Umon in order to prac tice their own religion.” House Resolution 450, co sponsored by Martin, express ed Congressional support for “Solidarity Sunday” on May 6 — a date in which Jews and Christians nationwide worked together to publicize the plight of Soviet Jews. In a statemrat released on Solidarity Sunday, Martin said: “Jews in the Soviet Union are not allowed to emigrate freely, a situation that we Americans find in tolerable. Soviet policy repre sents a violation of the Univer sal Declaration of Human Rights as well as the Helsinki and Madrid accords on human JSS To Hire New Director The Charlotte Jewish Federation Department of Social Services recently an nounced that Nathaniel S. Greenwood is no longer with the agency. Jewish Social Ser vices is presently searching for a new director and hopes to have one in place by the end of the summer.
