The new brand was being produced under license from Anheuser-Busch, of St. Louis, which produces Budweiser in the U.S. and which is pro viding the Israeli brewery with some of the raw materials and some of the secret ingredients they use. Israelis drink little beer in comparison to Americans and Europeans. Average consump tion here is 20 quarts a year, compared to 120 quarts an nually in the U.S. and 170 in beer-thirsty West Germany as a whole, with a record of 275 quarts in Bavaria. First National Jewish Archive Of Broadcasting At Jewish Museum NEW YORK (JTA) - The first National Jewish Archive of Broadcasting, a comprehen sive collection of Jewish related material broadcast on radio and television over the past 35 years, has opened at the Jewish Museum here. The archive, which will be a department of the museum, was initiated in 1980 with a $550,000 three-year start-up grant from the Charles H. Revson Foundation. The archive has collected, catologued and preserved hun dreds of acquisitions with the cooperation of the three major commercial networks—ABC, CBS and NBC and the Public Broadcasting System (PBS). ‘Protocols’ Again Surface In Britain LONDON (JTA) - The world’s most notorious anti- Jewish forgery, the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” has once again surfaced in Britain. The Iranian Embassy in Lon don marked the fifth anniver sary of the overthrow of the Shah by summarizing the “Protocols” in an English magazine, Imam. In the summary, the Iran ians describe Zionism as “an enemy of humanity” and assert that the “Protocols’’are “being adhered to word by word by the Jewish-influenced Western governments. Genera! Played Key Role In Helping Holocaust Survivors CHICAGO (JTA) - Obituary reports about four- star General Mark Clark, who died at the age of 87, left unmentioned the key role he played in the rehabilitation and resettlement of Holocaust survivors in the Displaced Per sons camps of post-war Austria. In the summer of 1945, President Harry Truman was highly disturbed by media reports of mistreatment of Jewish survivors in the U.S. Army-controlled DP camps. Truman rebuked General Dwight Eisenhower for these conditions. The Army was try ing to move Jewish refugees from one bad camp to smother. Clark, the U.S. Commanding General in Austria, sharply reprimanded his staff because they “had not carried out his orders” to provide proper facilities for the Jewish refugees. Iraqi Woman Released From Status of ‘Aguna* JERUSALEM (JTA) - The Tel Aviv Rabbinical Court has released an Iraqi Jewish woman from the bonds of be ing an “aguna,” declaring that there is no doubt that her hus band was executed by the Baghdad authorities. Businessmen Attend Economic Conference JERUSALEM (JTA) - About 350 businessmen and industrialists from ^1 over the world have confirmed their participation in an interna tional economic conference to be held in Jerusalem. The con ference was called in an effort to boost foreign investments in Israel. The participants were described as business leaders who head companies with annual turnovers of over $100 million. Mizrachi Bank Suffers Large Loss TEL AVIV (JTA) - The Mizrachi Bank, one of the four largest in Israel, announced a 948 million Shekel loss last year, the equivalent of $5.4 million at the current ex change rate. This compared to a 1.3 billion Shekel ($7.7 million) profit in 1982. Two more major Israeli banks announced heavy losses for last year and the heads of both blamed government policies for their predicament. The Bank Leumi, Israel’s largest bank, published its balance sheet showing a loss in 1983 of 7.750 billion Shekels ($43 million). The Bank Hapoalim released its balance sheet showing a 10.9 billion Shekel loss in 1983 compared to a profit the previous year. It was the most severe loss of any of the major banks so far. Tid-Bits GENEVA (JTA) - A Jewish Socicdist member of Parliament from Zurich, Emanuel Hurwitz, has resign ed from the legislature and from the party following a manifesto the Socialist Party prepgu'ed in observance of May Day which stated its “full sup port and sympathy for the PLO and its struggle.” The president of the party in Zurich, said it is expected that more Jews will leave the par ty as a result of this incident. The PLO has a lot of influence on leftwing movements in Switzerland because of their financial contributions. • BOSTON (JTA) - Rep. Samuel Geidenson (D. Conn.) addressed the biennial conven tion of the JWB on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day. Geidenson, the first child of Holocaust survivors to serve in Congress, told the nearly 1,000 Jewish communal leaders from the U.S., Canada, Israel, Argentina, Belgium and France, “There are those who say that the U.S. gives too much aid to Israel. But in fact we give far less to Israel than we give to democracies in Western Europe and through out the world.” • NEW YORK (JTA) - A $500,000 New American Scholarship Fund has been established at Yeshiva Univer sity to make it possible for the university to provide, in per petuity, educational oppor tunities for inunigremts arriv ing from lands of oppression. • (JTA) — Nine Neo-Nazis found guilty by Vienna court of anti-Semitic acts, including the bombings of Jewish homes and Jewish-owned businesses, and spreading propaganda that the Holocaust was a hoax. All received prison sentences ranging from three months to five years. Apart from the criminal charges, all of the accused were found guilty of using the greeting “Heil Hitler,” distributing literature titled “The Auschwitz Lie,” wearing Nazi uniforms and attempting to recruit young soccer fans to their rightist organizations. All of these acts are offenses under Austria’s laws forbid ding Nazi activities. • WASHINGTON (JTA) - The State Department said that it has “expressed con cern” to the Rumanian government “at high levels” about reports of increased anti-Semitism in that Com munist country. “These reports center on a book of poems published recently which attacked Chief Rabbi Moses Rosen personal ly and Jews in general.
