A Heady Venture
TEL AVIV (JTA) - Israel’s
national beer brewery mono
poly started production of its
locally-brewed Budweiser beer
which is identical to the
108-year-old American origi
nal.
The new brand was being
produced under license from
Anheuser-Busch, of St. Louis,
which produces Budweiser in
the U.S. and which is pro
viding the Israeli brewery with
some of the raw materials and
some of the secret ingredients
they use.
Israelis drink little beer in
comparison to Americans and
Europeans. Average consump
tion here is 20 quarts a year,
compared to 120 quarts an
nually in the U.S. and 170 in
beer-thirsty West Germany as
a whole, with a record of 275
quarts in Bavaria.

‘Protocols’ Again
Surface In Britain
LONDON (JTA) - The
world’s most notorious anti-
Jewish forgery, the “Protocols
of the Elders of Zion,” has
once again surfaced in Britain.
The Iranian Embassy in Lon
don marked the fifth anniver

Shah by summarizing the
“Protocols” in an English
magazine, Imam.

ians describe Zionism as “an
enemy of humanity” and
assert that the “Protocols’’are
“being adhered to word by
word by the Jewish-influenced

Genera! Played Key Role In
Helping Holocaust Survivors
CHICAGO (JTA) -
Obituary reports about four-
star General Mark Clark, who
died at the age of 87, left
unmentioned the key role he
played in the rehabilitation
and resettlement of Holocaust
survivors in the Displaced Per
sons camps of post-war
Austria.
In the summer of 1945,
President Harry Truman was
highly disturbed by media
reports of mistreatment of
Jewish survivors in the U.S.
Army-controlled DP camps.
Truman rebuked General
Dwight Eisenhower for these
conditions. The Army was try
ing to move Jewish refugees
from one bad camp to smother.
Clark, the U.S. Commanding
General in Austria, sharply
reprimanded his staff because
they “had not carried out his
orders” to provide proper
facilities for the Jewish
refugees.

Iraqi women whose husbands
are now considered dead will
be able to remarry.
“Aguna” is the halachic
term for a woman whose hus
band is missing and presumed

WASHINGTON (JTA) -
The State Department said
that it has “expressed con
cern” to the Rumanian
government “at high levels”
about reports of increased
anti-Semitism in that Com
munist country.
“These reports center on a
book of poems published
recently which attacked Chief
Rabbi Moses Rosen personal
ly and Jews in general. The
fact that such a poem was
published in Rumania, the
country in which the govern
ment controls the media, is of
particular concern.”
