Mariashi Groner, director of the camp, is happy to report that the first year was better than expected. The campers were treated to special trips, first was Carowinds and then Discovery Place, roller skating and horse back riding. They also enjoyed a trip to the River Banks Zoo in Columbia, SC. The Jewish spirit was felt at aU times. Campers studied blessings over food and learn ed basic Jewish principles of what it means to be a Jew. “What a proud feeling to be Jewish,” said one young camper who won a prize for studying P’sukim of Torah. Yossi and Gedalyah Shem- tov came from New York to be head staff and boy did they devote themselves to the campers. The children were taught how to bake Challah and excelled in arts and crafts depicting Jewish life, like the Kiddush cup and the Shabbat candles. Said one mother, “I just can’t get over the happy faces of the children, their excite* ment and joy. It is if we were back in Israel." Said another. “Now my child does not stop singing ‘Moise Mouse’ who always eats Kosher meat and does not mix it with cheese.” Camp began every day with a line up at the Lubavitch Residence foUowed by learning classes. The days were filled with trips, sports, and arts and crafts. The children en joyed healthy nutritious lunches. “We are thankful to Walter and Elizabeth Klein for allow ing the camp to use their swimming pool.” said Mariashi Groner. “It added to the joy and excitement of camp.” Horseback riding in Charlotte.
