Hunter House is a halfway house for single women who choose to keep their babies. Recently, Hunter House was forced to move from its former location by the ex pansion of Presbyterian Hospital. In its new location. Hunter House will now house 8 mothers and infants. This increase in residents has caused an immediate need for more furniture and baby items, and it is this need that Ha Lailah wants to meet. W. 552-8118 Hours: Mon-Sat 10-10 Sun 1-10 Women’s American ORT (Organization for Rehabilita tion Through Training) is in volved with raising funds to support a global network of vocational and technical schools. Combining social and fundraising events throughout the year, we hope to help main tain Jewish culture, education and religious training in the ORT schools. Bowl-A-Thon A successful bowling night was held at Park Lanes on June 9. Prizes were awarded to the following winners for the evening: Men’s high game — David Miller; Women’s high game — Sue Ett; Couple’s high game — David and Judy Miller. Thanks go to all who participated in this fun even ing. The money raised was for the benefit of LAOTI (The Los Angeles ORT Technical In stitute). This school, schedul ed to open in 1986, will train Jewish youth in an attempt to lower the high unemployment rate in that area. Installation Dinner The Annual Installation Dinner was held June 20 at the Barley & Rye Restaurant. The officers and committee chairmen who served last year were presented with carna tions, and the new officers for the coming year were welcom ed. Ten membes who achieved “Honor Roll” status during the year (donating the equivdent of $50 in time or services) received ORT pins during the ceremony. Marcelle Oxman, a past-president, in stalled the following new of ficers: President, Marci Mehlman; Lydia Kohn, VP Programming; Sue Ett, VP Special Projects; Madelyn Moore, VP Education; Dorothy Shapiro, VP Member ship; Kathy Katz, Treasurer; Judy Miller, Secretary. Coining Events A Dessert Party for all in terested prospective members and their husbands is planned for August 25. All present members and their husbands are also invited to attend. Call Marci Mehlman at 542-2096 for more information. The first Open Meeting of the year will be held September 19. Instead of the usual Paid-Up-Membership Dinner to st£u*t the year, a gala Fashion Show featuring clothes made at ORT schools around the world is planned. —Ellen Cooper Young Professionals A new group has been in ex istence in Charlotte since last November and continues to grow. Sponsored by the Charlotte Lodge of B’nai B’rith, the Young Profes sionals Group seeks to bring together on a monthly basis Jewish men from the approx imate age of 20 to 35 years old. The group has been meeting for dinner and cocktails and has had speakers from the areas of sports, business and politics. Future activities planned include attendance at sporting events, parties and more.
