As we approach the opening of the new JCC the Center’s premembership committee be comes increasingly more im portant. This committee is charged not only with develop ing a myriad of new policies, but must also develop a com prehensive membership cam paign. The chairman of both the standing and phase-in membership committees is Barry Kaye. Barry has been chairman of the membership committee since he joined the JCC Board in 1983. His phase- in conunittee recently com pleted a new set of member ship policy recommendations. Barry’s leadership enabled the committee to deal with some very difficult issues in an in- After School With The JCC Annie Goldberg gave invo cation. On January 15, the Char lotte Chapter of B'nai B’rith Women organized a beautiful luncheon as part of the JCC’s older adult luncheon series. Annie Goldberg, one of the communities most beloved seniors, delivered the invoca tion. The delicious lunch in cluded a fruit cup, kosher chicken, rice pilaf, mixed vegetables and a luscious dessert. Rabbi Krantzler and his lovely wife Helen entertained the group with music and song. This was followed by Rabbi Krantzler’s enlighten ing discussion on “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Being Jewish, but Were Afraid to Ask.” Teams To Be Feted At Awards Dinner Our JCC-Temple Israel youth basketball teams have played an exciting season this year. The J.V. team (5th and 6th grades) has shown much im provement as the season pro gressed and looks forward to playing next year with a strong team. The High School team (9th-12th grades) has played an outstanding season with a 4-1 record at this writing. Their deep bench ensures this winning tradition will continue in future seasons as well. Both teams look forward to a spaghetti dinner-awards evening at Temple Israel in March. Many thanks to our devoted coaches for all their hard work and interest in our young players. Next school year, beginning September 1985, the Jewish Community Center plans to of fer an After School Care Pro gram at the JCC Child Care Center (910 Sardis Lane). It will be available for first through sixth ^aders every school day from 2:30-6 p.m. (cost to be determined). Children will be expected to register on a monthly basis; preregistration opens this month. Consider sending your child to Charlotte’s only Jewish After School Care Program for grrade school children. CaU the “J” today for an ap plication form. Special Events For Senior Adults Ha Lailah Chapter of B’nai B’rith Women will be hosting a senior adult dinner on March 10, from 4 - 6 p.m. at Temple Beth EL A deUcious hot sup per will be served. They will be entertained by the dynamic musical duo. Jay Kirsh and Jimmy Bedrick. On March 20, the Sisterhood of Temple Israel will be hosting a senior adult lunch eon from 11:30 - 1:30 p.m. at Temple Israel. This tasty lunch will include the ever popular potato latkes. The program will look into the Lives of Jews around the world. What was it like to grow up in places as far away as Egypt, or as close as the Georgia mountains? This is your chance to find out. Barry earned his MBA from Baruch College in New York City. He has been a sales representative for Koret of California for the past 14 years and is on the Board of Direc tors of the Carolina Trade Mart. Barry and his wife Susan have 3 children: Lisa, 8 months old; Joshua, 7-years- old and Peter, 10-years-old. We thank Barry for his tireless efforts on behalf of the JCC and we look forward to his continued involvement. Tennis Season Begins The Men’s and Women’s Queen City Spring Tennis League will begin their com petitive doubles matches in the week of March 12. Past players will receive phone ceils from their captains about team play. Interested new players should call the JCC, 366-0357, to become a part of this fun activity as a regular or substitute player. The fee is only $7 (for balls and League fees) for a season of sport emd camaraderie. PAY YOUR JCC DUES as September 1985, the JCC will again be offering a three-days- a-week childcare program for infants and toddlers (ages four months to two-and-a-half years). Children will be welcomed in to the warm and loving environment of the JCC Child Care Center (910 Sardis Lane), provided by experienced staff.
