The board is comprised of 100 members representing various aspects of the community— business, professional,, etc. Warren Binnick has been promoted to director of Pharmacy Services at Presbyterian Hospital. • Leland Fuerstman, a computer consultant and son of Hilbert Fuerstman, has achieved the title of national master of chess. This title is held by only 2% (or 500) of all chess players in the country. He is one of five persons in North Carolina with the title. • Larry Liss, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Liss, was elected presi dent of Tau Epsilon Phi at UNC-CH. • Andrew Baron, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Baron, has distinguished himself by winning the N.C. Independent Schools State Wrestling Championship in the 195-pound weight class. Andrew helped his school, Chjirlotte Country Day, to a perfect team record of 15 wins with no losses. His record, in this his senior year, was 23 wins and 2 losses; 21 of his wins came with pins. Joel Slesinger, son of Leonard Slesinger, has passed the CPA examination. • In the recent Charlotte-Mecklenburg PTA “Reflections" con test, Dalya Massachi, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Massachi, won second place for her poem “Clay of Imagination.” The con test was in three divisions: literature, visual arts and music with the topic being “What Sparks My Imagination.” Dalya is a sophomore at East Mecklenburg High School. • Latest additional Fall deans’ lists: At Appalachian State University, Laurie Behar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Behar; Naomi Spitzer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Spitzer. At N.C. State University: Neil Hennes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Hennes. • Lina Levine was awarded Honorable Mention during a recent show by the Guild of Charlotte Artists. The na tional coordinating body for the field of Jewish community relations, NJCRAC is com prised of 111 local Jewish com munity relations bodies and 11 national agencies. Prior to assuming the posi tion of NJCRAC Executive, Mr. Chernin served as the agency’s speciedist for Soviet Jewry and as Coordinator of the American Conference on Soviet Jewry. Currently he is a member of the Presidium and Secretariat of the World Conference on Soviet Jews. Thomas A. Dine, Executive Director of the American Israel Public Affairs Commit tee, will provide “A Nation8il and International Perspective of Political Issues Facing the Jewish Community.” Director of the CJF Washington Action Office Mark Talisman will speak at the closing session. Appointed by the President as Vice Chairmcm of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Center, Mr. Talisman was instrumen tal in negotiating the agree ment with the government of Czechoslovakia that resulted in the release of over 500 objects of Judaica originally collected by Hitler to con stitute a “museum to an ex tinct race.” The resulting ex hibition,* known as “The Precious Legacy,” was shown in major U.S. museums. The Conference will include sessions on Aging, Young Leadership, Long Range Cam paign Planning, Women’s Division, Jewish Education, a special Endowment Workshop and Women’s Division Workshop. Representatives from both volunteer-directed and profes sionally directed communities are invited to attend the Con ference. All the Jewish Institutions of Charlotte ~ Temples Beth El, Beth Shalom and Israel, the Hebrew Academy, JCC and Federation — have taken this tradition and turned it into an exciting treasure hunt. ON SUNDAY, APRIL 14, at 2:30 p.m, the JCC is holding an open house and tour of the COMMUNITY PROJECT in progress. At 2 p.m. that day, those who qualify will be invited to come and hunt for the Afikomen. To qualify you must solve a puzzle and subinit your answer in writing by Friday, April 12. A correct answer from just one family member qualifies the whole family. You can enter as many times as you want, there is no penalty for wrong guesses.
