Tracy is a rising senior at Myers Park High School and Joanna is a rising senior at South Mecklenburg High School. Both will be attending Israel Sunmier Institute spon sored by BBYO. Dalya and David are rising juniors at East Meek H.S. She will be participating in the United Synagogue Youth Pilgrimage while he will attend the Israel Academy, a program spon sored by UAHC, the Reform movement. In accepting the grants, all four students will ingly accepted the responsibil ity to report on their trips when they return and to develop ways in which to en courage other teens to par ticipate in Israel programs in the future. The members of the scholar ship committee were: Larry Gerber, chair; Sally Schrader, Emily Zimmern, Vicki Hop kins and Hal Levinson. Yiddish Institute Was A Remarkable Effort The Seventh Annual Yid dish Institute, held at Wildacres, April 25-28,1985 is now a fond memory. It was attended by about 90 members who represented 10 states from the Eastern Seaboard. Baila Pransky, coordinator of the Institute, and Abe Luski, keynote speaker, and the CYI committee; Sarah Ackerman, Gedalia Acker man, Moishe Bienstock, Sarah Goldman, Yehudah Goldman, Raizel Luski, Lyba Pollard and Yayneh Pransky staged a remarkable event. Even the weather was cooperative with warmth and sunshine enhanc ing the natural beauty of the North Carolina mountains. Miriam Kressyn and Sey mour Rexite, well known per sonalities of the Yiddish theater, recalled the history of their profession and entertain ed with songs and anecdotes that many of us grew up with. Jacob Blank, a noted lec turer and teacher, spoke about famous people like Herzl, Freud, and Chiam Grade, in addition to speaking about Israel and the importance of furthering Yiddisl^eit among our children and grand children. He reached us with his intensity and his lifelong dedication to Judaism. One of the highlights was the regular Sabbath service on Saturday morning conducted by guest Rabbi Leo Hoffman and Cantor George Ackerman. The service was unique in that the Torah and Haftorah read ings were chanted in Yiddish. Rabbi Hoffman did a master ful job in translating both por tions into Yiddish. Cantor Ackerman chanted the service and the Torah reading in his usual good voice, while Rabbi Hoffman chanted the Haf torah beautifully. Members also attended lec tures, classes and seminars conducted in Yiddish. Every evening ended with our now famous social gather ings; included were singing, guitar playing by Marvin Bienstock and Mary Marcus of N.Y., and the general feeling of camaraderie among us all. We made new friends, strengthened the bonds of old ones, and went home smiling and humming the sounds of the weekend. We look forward to many more years at Wildacres with our hosts, the Blumenthal family, and the opportunities afforded to us by the Blumen thal Foundation. — Lillian and Mickey Bayer Casually Elegant Carmal at Quail Hollow 541.0529 Restaurant Francais Par Excellence Prix Fixed and Ala Carte Dinners 6:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Open For Lunch 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. 1742 Lombardy Circle Off East Blvd. in Dilworth Cooperative Chartotte, N.C.
