Jewish Singles To Hold
**Sun & Fun’’ Weekend
An exciting weekend for
Jewish singles, sponsored by
Temple Israel of Norfolk, will
again be held at the Cavalier
Oceanfront Hotel complex in
Virginia Beach, August 23-25.
It is an opportunity to join
with Jewish singles from the
entire Eastern Seaboard and
especially from North
Carolina, Virginia, Washing
ton, D.C., Maryland, Penn
sylvania and New Jersey.
A full program of dining,
worship, music, dancing,
sports, discussions and swim
ming in the ocean or indoor
pool will make this a complete
vacation. The cost is $170 per
person, double occupancy,
which includes Friday night
dinner and social, national
entertainer on Friday night,
Saturday morning continental
breakfast, Saturday evening
cookout and beer bash, Satur
day evening live band, and
Sunday brunch. For those who
do not require hotel accomoda
tions, the cost is $70.
This will be the third year
that Temple Israel has spon
sored this event. Last year
there were over 600 singles
who attended. Temple Israel
had 204 hotel rooms at the
Cavalier filled with singles
from all over the East Coast.
Additional hotels at the beach
had to be used for the overflow
since the entire allotment of
reserved rooms at the Cavalier
was used. This year Temple
Israel has reserved 300 rooms
for the event and an an
ticipated turnout of over 750
singles.
For reservations and further
information, please contact
Temple Israel, 7255 Granby
Street, Norfolik, Va., phone:

Becky Shulimson Children’s
Memorial Library Established
By Vicki Neumann
Ha Lailah Chapter of B’nai
B’rith Women recognized a
need for a strong Jewish
library in our community. It
was decided to focus par
ticularly on a children’s collec
tion to be used by everyone.
With the prospect of a multi
million dollar educational
facility being built by the
Charlotte Jewish community,
it seemed appropriate to place
a well stocked section of
children’s Judaic materieds at
the finger tips of all children
entering the media center.
A list of available books has
been compiled by one of our
members, Jenny Rosenthed,
who has a masters degree in
library science and is present
ly the libreirian at Temple Beth
El.
We chose to name this sec
tion of the library after Becky
Shulimson, a charter member
and life member of Ha Lailah.
Her untimely death, at 35,
touched all our members in a
way that we still feel difficult
' to accept. Because of her in
volvement in Jewish com
munity affairs and her strong
feelings toward Jewish educa
tion, we felt it was appropriate
to memorialize her in this
manner.
With a contribution made
by the Blumenthal Founda
tion, stationery, cards and
book plates were acquired to
begin this project. Our intent
is to be able to purchase books

Temple Beth El News
A new organization has been
established to promote and
further the social interests of
its members. The Temple Beth
El Social Club was organized
at a covered-dish dinner on
June 8. Officers are Sidney Co-
jac, president; Murray Rosen,
vice president; Micld Schiff-
man, secretary; Julian Saly,
treasurer; Jane Heller, social
coordinator. The enthusiasm
generated at the June gather
ing carried over to July 14,
when Bastille Day was com
memorated with a “Gay
Paree” party. Hors d’oeuvres,
wine and desserts were served,
foUowed by music and dancing
with a French flair. Future
events, including short trips to
points of special interest, are
in the planning stage.
On June 28, when Rabbi
Krantzler was attending the
national convention of the
Central Conference of
American Rabbis, Hilbert
Fuerstman, a Temple member
of long standing and a student
of the Bible, presented the ser
mon. Lisa Vernon, Director of
Education, conducted the Ser
vice and Torah reading and
also led the Saturday morning
service and Torah study.
On July 12, a special Oneg
Shabbat was celebrated in
honor of Elizabeth and Walter
Klein's fortieth wedding an
niversary. Hosts were the
children of the honorees.
