PIZAZZ Group Is For
Young Jewish Singles
By Adrien Chandler
It is always nice to have a
warm and friendly place to
celebrate a Jewish holiday.
Pizazz. Charlotte’s young
single group, provided such an
opportunity at the end of the
Jewish New Year observance.
About 75 people gathered
September 25 at the home of
Cindy Moritz to enjoy a tradi
tional break-fast, sharing each
other’s good food and com
pany. It was a pot luck affair,
each person bringing a favor
ite covered dish or dessert. It
is Pizazz’s most popular an
nua] event, attracting a mix of
native Charlotteans and
newcomers who want to mark
the end of the holiday. Many
thanks to Cindy for being such
a good hostess!

Enjoying the "Break-Fast.”
For those of you unfamiliar
with the group. Pizazz is an
organization comprised of
young, single, Jewish people
whose main goal is to provide
social events for Charlotte
area Jewish singles in their
early 20s to mid-30s. Pizazz
offers monthly programming,
ranging from summertime
baseball games to uptown
nightlife tours, parties, lec
tures and all ’round good
times. It’s a great way to mix,
meet and mingle.
If you would like to get in
volved, our next open meeting
is November 10 at the Arm
strong House. We would love
to see you there and hear your
ideas for future programming.
Some upcoming events in
clude:

The JCC is pleased to an
nounce that Ms. Cary Bern
stein has rejoined the profes

Children’s Programs. A UNC-
Greensboro graduate in Child
Development, Cary comes to
us with experience in working
with pre-school through
adolescent youngsters. She
has served as a volunteer for
B’nai B’rith Youth Organiza
tion, and is a former Director
of Youth Services for the
Charlotte JCC.
Ms. Terri Cathcart, chair of
the JCC Children’s Commit
tee, recently convened that
group to begin program plan
ning with Cary.
We all join in a heartfelt
welcome to Cary!

JCC Board of Directors in the
form of a $1,250 contribution
to be used toward the pur

Chai-Lites as well as all the
seniors in the community for
whom transportation has been
problematic.
Winners of the 1985 Chai-
Lites Raffle are:
Lonny Shved - Framed
watercolor by Annie Goldberg.
Robert Klein - Hand
crocheted afghan.
Ralph Kier - Framed water-
color by Annie Shapiro.
A special and personal
welcome to Cary Bernstein,
new Director of Children’s
Programs at the “J” - I’m glad
you’re here! I look forward to
working with Cary on many
joint projects and activities
for our membership.
In the short time I’ve been
a part of the JCC staff, I’ve
become aware of the complex
ities presented by the current
lack of a real “home” for the
JCC. As we all anxiously await
the move into the new facility,
it becomes difficult to find the
right spot to stage a program,
event or class. We’ve received
tremendous help from Temple
Beth El, Temple Israel, the
Unitarian Church, Providence
Baptist Church, to name a
few, in dealing with this prob
lem; however, it seems that as
Dorothy learned, “There’s no
place like home.”
To those of you who con
tinue to take advantage of and
enjoy our programming, many
thanks. To those of you who
are a bit hesitant to jump in,
we’ll be glad to see you in the
new building. Transitions are
never easy. With our hard
work, your support and lots of
enthusiasm from all of us,
we’re well on our way to
strengthening the future of
Charlotte’s Jewish Commun
ity Center.
