Eric Seitlin The U.S. Committee Sports For Israel elected Harry Swim mer a National Vice-President for the next four years. The elec tion came at the USCSFI annual meeting held in Philadelphia in November. Norman Levin has been appointed to the board. • Dr. Harold Josephson has authored Biographical Dictionary of Modem Peace Leaders which includes sketches of such peace advocates as Mohandas Gandhi and Dag Hammarskjold, as well as many lesser known leaders. Josephson teaches history at UNCC and directs the university’s Center of Internationa Studies. • Rabbi Robert Seigel has been elected Chairman of the Charlotte Area Clergy Association for 1986. • Lisa Vernon, Director of Temple Beth El’s Religious School, has qualified for the title of Reform Jewish Educator granted by the Union of American Hebrew Congregations. The cer tificate was presented at the Conference of National Associa tions of Temple Educators in Toronto, Canada. • Stuart Schwartz is the new director of the York County Museum. • Several of our young people participated in the first major regional chess tournament in Cressville, TN Dec. 7-8. Those at tending representing the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Scholastics Chess Association (CMSCA) were Rafi Goldberg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Goldberg, a student at First Ward, who placed third in his division; Craig Kaufmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Kauf- mann, also of First Ward, received a second place trophy in his rating section. His brother, Scott Kaufmann, of McClintock Jr. High, placed second on the Jr. High level. In the individual novice awards, David Fox, son of Dr. and Mrs. Leonard Fox, of Providence Day, took first place. His brother, Michael Fox, also participated. At the Primary grade level (K-3), Michael Klein, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richie Klein, of Beverly Woods Elem., placed fourth. Daniel Goldberg, son of Dr. and Mrs. Trevor Goldberg, of Providence Day (K-3) was also on the team. President of the CMSCA is Larry Goldberg. Richard A. Klein has been named to serve as a member of the UJA National Campaign Cabinet for the Campaign year 1987. Dr. Scott Menaker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Menaker, is now associated with Dr. Stephen Spiegler in the practice of General Dentistry. • Eric Seitlin, son of Dr. and Mrs. Larry Seitlin, a second grader at Beverly Woods School, played offensive tackle for the SouthPark Falcons of the Mecklenburg FootbaU League. The Falcon’s 8-1 record made them county champions. This was Eric’s second year on the team; he started every game. • Mike Kane heis published a pamphlet “The AT&T Break-Up: How You Can Save Up To 80%. Call him to leam more about this. • Cindy Solow has been named to the 1986 “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges” directory.
