Page 12-THE NEWS-February, 1986 WTVI Repeats Special “Heritage” Series Heritage: Civilization and the Jews which eiired last ye£ir and met with much ac claim has been brought again to WTVI (channel 42). The 9-part series of 60-minute programs had its first episode on January 25. Subsequent programs will air on Saturdays at 3 p.m. Included this time will be the addition of “The Bill Moyers HERITAGE Con versations.” These will follow the fourth and ninth episodes. (Check for local listings). The series is a monumen tal production chronicling over 3,000 years of Jewish history in the context of other Western civilizations. Filmed and researched over four years in more than 18 nations on four continents, HERITAGE, hosted and narrated by Abba Eban, uses art and artifacts, historical sites, and primary literary sources to tell its story. The series in vestigates the origin and evolution of attitudes and practices that have become the heritage of all Jewish men and women today. The order of presentation is as follows: 1. “A People is Born” (13th Century B.C.E. to 6th Century B.C.E.) 2. “The Power of the Word” (6th Century B.C.E. to 2nd Century C.E.) 3. “The Shaping of Tradi tions” (1st to 9th Centuries) 4. “The Crucible of Europe” (9th to 15th) Centuries) 5. “The Search for Delivertmce” (1492-1789) 6. “Roads from the Ghet to” (1789-1917) 7. “The Golden Land” (1654-1932) 8. “Out of the Ashes” (1917-1945) 9. “Into the Future” (1945-Present) HERITAGE civil I/AI K)N AND IHI |l WS . hovt«'d hv V \HH\IH\N WRAtL' Abba Eban, former Israeli Ambassador to the United States and the United Nations, is the on-camera host and nar rator for the encore presentation of the monumental nine- part series, HERITAQE: CIVILIZATION AND THE JEWS, which returned to public television January 25. The series won three Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, and a CINE Golden Eagle Certificate, among other awards. This is a college television course licensed by the PBS Adult Learning Service. Filmed in part of the old Jewish quarter in Cracow, Poland (lower left). The Search For Deliverance, Episode Five of HERITAQE: CIVILIZATION AND THE JEWS, encor ing on public television Thursday, February 20 (check local listings), encompasses the complex European Jewish ex perience from the expulsion from Spain in 1492 to the French Revolution in 1789. Shown here at upper left are two followers of Hasidism, a Jewish movement founded by Ba'al Shem Tov in the 18th century. In conjunction with this en core presentation of the Emmy Award-winning series, jour nalist Bill Moyers will host two all-new interview programs discussing issues raised in the original 1984 broadcast.
