Beth El’s «*Bifitel Brief’’
Joe and Helen Cohen admire anniversary cake as Rita and Irving Mond
(L) and Hilbert Fuerstman (R) make the presentation.
New Year’s Eve at Temple
Beth El marked a very suc
cessful beginning for the new
year. The party, sponsored by
the Men’s Club, was well at
tended by members from both
Temples Beth El and Israel,
and many guests. Highlight of
the evening was a special
presentation and huge cake
marking Helen and Joe
Cohen’s 49th anniversary.
On January 18, a commun
ity* wide Young Children’s
Shabbat was conducted at the
Temple. At Sisterhood’s
January luncheon, Kathleen
McLain, religious editor of The
Charlotte Observer, spoke on
her personal perspective on
the plight of the Soviet
Refuseniks.
January 19 was a busy day
at the Temple. After the Men’s
Club breakfast, featuring D.G.
Martin, we hosted the Catho-
lie-Jewish dialogue group
sponsored by the Ecumenical
Institute.
The weekend of February 1
we hosted the annual Junior
High conclave with about 90
youngsters in attendance.
They represented eight area
Reform Congregations.
The Social Club will hear
Isaac Stern at Winthrop Col
lege on February 4. The
February 21 service will honor
Jewish singles, and will be
preceded with a dinner for
them.,
