Page 6-THE NEWS-February, 1986 This 'n That Elizabeth Klein To Receive BBW Human Relations Award Stann Reiziss Irving Edelman Susan Jackson Dr. Stann Reiziss was elected first vice president for 1985-86 and 1986-87 of the Association to Advance Ethical Hypnosis. He is a certified hypnotherapist and director of Hypnosis In formation and Referral here. • Susan Jackson has been named training and development associate, BarclaysAmerican Corp., Charlotte. She was formerly adult program director of the JCC. • Gov. Jim Martin has made eight appointments to the 24-member N.C. Council on the Holocaust. Among them are Susan Cernyak-Spatz and Roslyn Greenspon. . • Alexis Lerner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Lerner, won in the 14 and under girls doubles tennis category of the 1985 Pepsi Junior Indoor Championship. It was held at the Charlotte Ten nis Club. • Irving Edelman, an educator/administrator with the Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools since 1947, will retire on Feb. 13. He will be kept busy, however, with hopes of completing his doctoral program, begun two years ago, plus continuing his interests in piano, writing and perhaps some part-time teaching. Come June he expects to be at Wimbledon to watch a son-in-law com pete in the tennis tournament there. • TO LIFE has received a $10,000 grant from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation. • Lina (Mrs. Herman) Levine won third place in the Guild of Charlotte Artists Exhibit shown in the Lobby of the Knight Publishing Building. By Meryle Elko Charlotte Chapter of B’nai B ’rith Women is proud to an nounce Elizabeth Klein as the recipient of its 1986 Human Relations Awfird. As Student-Family Coor dinator of the Charlotte Ex change Student Program, Elizabeth Klein’s role required her to act as an arbitrator when problems arose between host parents and the students. On many occasions, her in volvement had prevented small issues from becoming major disputes. After World War II, Elizabeth participated in resettling Latvian refugees. She counseled Russian Jewish refugees, locating sources and supplies for them, driving them to appointments and jobs, to Temple and assisting their children with school pro blems and college applications. She still remains close to many of these families. The success of the Hornet’s Nest Girl Scout Council’s pro gram can be attributed to such leaders as Elizabeth Klein. She was chairperson of the Pro gram Committee. In this capacity, Elizabeth worked with senior girls with their “Public Relation Aid” pro gram and served on the Girl Scout Board of Directors for many yeeirs. Elizabeth Klein’s under- st£inding of civic needs was il Elizabeth Klein lustrated by her involvement in the Unaccompanied Minors Program of the Lutheran Family Services. This pro gram is for “Boat Children” who have escaped Vietnam and who have left their families behind. Elizabeth and her family have been a support for Thanh and Tuyet Nguyen for the last 2V2 years. She has served on the boards of the YWCA, Mat thews PTA, Charlotte Hadassah, Charlotte B’nai B’rith Women and Temple Beth Shsdom Sisterhood. In addition, Elizabeth was past president of Temple Beth El Sisterhood and vice chairper son, Providencc precinct, of the Democratic Party. This award will be presented on Feb. 19 at Temple Beth El. Seating for this catered lun cheon will be at 11:30 a.m.; lunch served at noon. Cost is $7.50 per person. Your check, made payable to Charlotte BBW and received by Feb. 14, is your reservation.
