Page 13-THE NEWS-June/July. 1986 Our Organizations B^nai B^rith Lodge The annual N.C. B’nai B’rith State Convention took place May 4-5 at Myrtle Beach. Alan Hirsch, from Charlotte, was discharged as State Presi dent and Mike Schaul, from Raleigh, was installed as the new President. The Charlotte Lodge received the Outstan ding State Lodge award; Ken Stern was presented the Outstanding Lodge President award; Allan Silber received a certificate for his contribu tions to BBYO. Represen tatives of the Charlotte Lodge were David Fligel, Alan Hirsch, Frank Rosen, Allan Silber, Eric Sklut, Joe Steiner and Ken Stern. The 1986-1987 Bogird of the Charlotte Lodge was officially installed on May 28 at the Marriott Hotel, Tyvola. The evening beg£in with an interna tional cheese, fruit and wine hour, followed by the instgJla- tion and the induction of new members. The new officers are Eric Sklut, president; David Fligel, president-elect; Jeff Turk, vp membership; Hal Levinson, vp youth ser vices/fund raising; Neal Nod- vin, vp programming; Mike Kane, treasurer; Steve Menaker, financial secretary; Ken Stern, immediate past president. Awards were pre sented to various lodge members for outstanding achievements. The evening concluded with coffee and dessert. — Ken Stern ■ We Are Proud To Announce Jewish Social Services has entered an agreement with the Jewish Community Center to rent the JCC van for the use of seniors every Thursday. Seniors may use the van for doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping, visiting, or other usages. College Students Attend Seders B’nai B’rith Women is pleas ed to report on its progress in bringing together the Jewish college students in the Char lotte area. Through the efforts of Janine Rosner, B’nai B’rith Women’s representative to the State Hillel Board, students at UNC-Charlotte, Queens Col lege and Davidson College p£ir- ticipated in Passover Seders. Thanks to hostesses Pat Somerstein, Elaine Shefflin and Marilyn Shapiro, seven students from the three col leges shared Seder with these local families. Plans are already underway for a social gathering in the fall for Jewish students from these universities. It is hoped that more students will be reached and that an active and ongoing group will result. Charlotte Chapter BBW By Marla Lewis Special Olympics Did We Miss You? The cold and wind did not deter Linda Binnick, Meryle Elko, Esther Gold, Joan Gor don, Margie Liebstein, Beth Linderman, Janine Rosner, Harriet Spector and Rabbi Marc Wilson from helping their “buddies” at the April 17 Special Olympics. Photo graphing the events was Stuart Rosner, whose mother, Janine Rosner, chaired this special event. Despite the weather, Lori Benjamin, Alissa Meadows and Tobey Silber and their sons Brian, Jeremy and Aaron cheered the Olympians on and shared the “warmth” of the day. Miracle Network For the third year, Charlotte BBW, in conjunction with the Osmond Foundation, par ticipated in the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon at WBTV. Proceeds benefitted Memorial Hospital and the Rehabilitation Center. it Getting resTdy for the Special Olympics.
