Witness the attached cor respondence to Roberta Sosnik, a member of our community. The “singles” referred to are friends and their initials are substituted to protect their privacy. Dear Roberta: I received your letter requesting that M, C, and J be added to the Jewish Singles Mixer list. It shall be done, and M, C, and J will be receiving invitations to all our functions. The last mixer drew almost 1,000 singles and was considered quite a suc cess. From what I hear, we may even have a few marriages to our credit! Many people ask why, as a U.S. Senator, I would be so in terested in being a “Shadchan.” Well, my father fixed me up with my wife, Ellen, so perhaps it’s hereditary, but I think it’s important for the survival of our people. Also, I think life and marriage is complicated enough without adding religious dif ferences and tense in-law relationships! These young people should know, it’s not only their parents and grandparents, but some Senator down there in Washington who cares and thinks it’s important for them to marry within their faith. Then there’s self interest: four sons aged 19 to 27! And there’s also a lot of pleasure associated with holding these “mixers.” Thank you for writing and remember, our motto is “the more the marryer!” Cordially, Rudy Boschwitz P.S. I was told I am now the idol of every Jewish Mother and Grandmother, and I must tell you, I enjoy my new role!
