Academy Gala Brings Elegance
cont’d from page 1
Sweet and sour tongue,
marinated vegetables and egg
salad with caviar were hits at
the hors d’oeuvres table.
About 200 guests enjoyed a
dinner of chicken Veronique,
rice pilaf and zucchini fans. A
heavily ladened fruit table of
fered patrons an alternative to
a rich chocolate mousse paired
with homemade almond
macaroons.
Following dinner, master of
ceremonies Stephen Fishman
reminisced about past Galas
before introducing Abe Luski
who recounted the founding of
the school in 1970. Berta
Straz, Abe’s daughter, spoke
of the school’s move to Shalom
Park and its plans for the
future. Peggy Gartner
presented Abe with a cer
tificate of appreciation for the
efforts of the 18 founders.
Annette and Richard Gross
were the dehghted winners of
a beautifully framed embossed
print by Israeli artist Rena
Rotholz who is represented in
the United States by Pucker-
Safrai Gallery in Boston.
As at past Galas, UNCC
professor friends of Stephen
Fishman served as bartenders
and waiters. Showing increas
ing professional polish at
tableside were Dr. and Mrs.
Edward St. Clair, Dr. and Mrs.
Richard Toenjes, Dr. Bill Gay,
