We are sorry to an nounce that Lila Josephson, Director of the Nursery School for 12 years, has retired. Lila will be devoting her full time to a new business venture she is starting here in Charlotte. At this year’s graduation pic nic, Lila was presented a ban ner made by the children and a gift from the Nursery School. The Temple is plann ing to honor Lila on Friday night, September 12 for her years of service to the school and community. We will miss Lila and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. Upon learning of Lila’s im pending departure, the Nursery School undertook an extensive search to find a highly qualified new director. We are proud to announce that this search was successful and that Mrs. Carol Klein of Brooklyn, New York has been hired as Lila’s replacement. Carol has a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education On July 20, Temple Israel honored 12 of its membership: Bill Ashendorf, Louis Doctor, Henry Hirschmann, Richard Melenson, Gil Portnoy, Stan Tulman, Abe Bober, Rev. Ernest Friedman, Debbie Langsam, John Pransky, Dr. Jessica Saxe and Rabbi Marc Wilson. In a true Judaic spirit On July 7, 1986, the presidents and secretaries of Temple Beth El and Temple Beth Shalom signed the “Ar ticles of Merger of Beth Shalom, Inc. into Temple Beth El, Inc.” forming the new corporation, “Temple Beth El V’Shalom, Inc.” This was the final step of a process which began over a year ago to merge the Reform congrega tions of Temple Beth El, founded in 1943, with Temple Beth Shalom, founded in 1970. The new congregation will have over 750 members. Rabbi Robert A. Seigel, who served as spiritual leader of Beth Shalom from 1980 to 1986, has become the rabbi of the combined congregation. Rabbi Harold I. Krantzler, who served as spiritual leader of Temple Beth El from 1976 to 1986, has become Rabbi Emeritus. Rabbi Krantzler and his wife Helen will be residing in California.
