Page 7-THE NEWS-August, 1986 Women*s Division of Federation Shalom Y’all Holds Wine and Cheese Party By Jody Pinion The Shalom Y’all committee sponsored by Women’s Divi sion of the Charlotte Jewish Federation was pleased to hold our summer wine and cheese party in the Youth Lounge of the new Jewish Community Center. What a welcome for our newcomers to enjoy our new facility first hand, gazing over the outdoor pool while enjoying wine, bak ed cheese and fresh fruit. Pamela Horowitz, 22, has been in Charlotte 6 months. Formerly of Lakewood, N.J., she moved here to be closer to family. She is single and works at the Sharon Branch Librairy. Howard and Meredith Glazer moved 6 months ago from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Howard is the new director of Pharmacy Education for Charlotte Health and Educa tion Center. Not new to the southeast, Howard got his pharmacy education in Charleston. The Glazers have two sons: Chad, 8, and Seth, 16 months. Jonathan Jabions, originally from New York, has been here a year and a half. He is single and works at Circuit City. Abraham and Lillie Schatz- berg, have been here 6 months. They moved from Miami hav ing resided there for 40 years. They admit it has been dif ficult to pull up roots and move after such a long time, but they wanted to be nearer to their daughter. Lillie enjoys the theater and is involved with WomanReach. David and Renee Vitt, here just 4V2 weeks are previously from East Windsor, New Jersey. They have two children: Nadine, 21, and Jef frey, 19, who came here with their parents. David is presi dent of Pelton and Crane. Renee has been busy unpack ing but would enjoy a good mahjong game. Debby and Jim Rosenberger have been here a year and a half. Jim is a sales represen tative in ladies sportswear. Debby is a receptionist at the “J”. They have two sons, Seth, 14, and Adam, 11. Debby also teaches at Temple Beth El V’Shalom religious school. Glorie Levinson, previously from Fairmont, NC, has been in Charlotte two years. She is widowed and wanted to live near her sons. Ron Brooke, single, has been here one year. He is in the meat packing business with Gwaltney of Smithfield. Originally from Virginia Beach, he likes to go to the beach in his spare time but ad mits Charlotte is just too far away. Larry and Marilyn Guss, moved here 6 months ago from Michigan, also wanted to be closer to family. Larry is an engineer with Odell and Associates. Marilyn’s mother was raised in nearby Hender sonville. What a change from Michigan. They are indeed im pressed by our heat and dry spell lately. They have a son living in California. Steve Myers got the “new prize” of the evening. He has been in Charlotte barely a month. He is single and works as a business consultant for FCA International. He grew up in Boston but moved here from Ft. Lauderdale. Family is also the reason Steve moved to North Carolina, in fact, “my mom made me come”. Haim and Nava Duek moved here 9 months ago from Israel. Haim works as an engineer for the computer company Scitex. Nava is studying computer programming at CPCC. They miss their family back in Israel but feel Charlotte is a great place to raise a family. They have a son, Omri, 3, and Nava is due in September with number two. Gene and Lori Benjamin have been in Charlotte since January by way of Winston- Salem and Texas. Gene is a neurologist with Demas Neurological Group. They have a son, Brian, two-years- old. We also had several “old newcomers” back for a second Shalom Y’all get together to help us welcome the “newer newcomers”, and to make new friends hopefully for a long time. Howard Sherman, for ex ample, has been here four years, and came back to enjoy another party. Libby Sutker, Colleen and Stu Epstein, Dvora Berri, with her visiting mother-in-law Shul Amith, and Elissa and Jim Meadow all came back to share a good time and to convince the newcomers — it does get better.
