Page 12-THE NEWS-September, 1986 JCC Children’s Progra.ms For registration forms/information, call Cary Bernstein, Children’s Program Director, 366-5007 Classes Begin Week of Sept. 8 - ARTS DRAMA - ALMOST 4 AND 4 S ~ CLAY AND OTHER PLAYTHINGS 3 & 4 Year Olds Pre-Schoolers will have an opportunity to build with clay. They will glaze their own work and bring home finished glazed pieces. Other projects will involve them in pasting, painting and draw ing. (Smock or old T-shirt is a must.) Tuesday 2:30-3:15 p.m. Instructor: Cathy Siderman PAINTING AND COLLAGE $27.50 M/S37.50 NM (Supply Fee Included) 4th & 5th Graders Students will be expected to do two acrylic paintings, two col lages and one group mural. All supplies are included; however, any donations of usable collage items such as material scraps, spools, hats, pie pans, yarns, etc. would be appreciated. Wear an old shirt! Tuesday 3:30-5:00 p.m. Instructor: Cathy Siderman CLAY-TO THROW OR NOT TO THROW $40 M/$50 NM 2nd & 3rd Graders Students will work in all hand building techniques - pinch, coil and slab and learn to use the potter's wheel. Assignments will be given to develop skills and engage creative thinking. Wednesday 4:30-6:00 p.m. Instructor: Cathy Siderman THE CLAY CREATORS $37.50 M/$47.50 NM (Supply Fee Included) K - 2nd Graders The “creators” will be working with pinch, coil and slab hand- building techniques and learn to use the potter’s wheel. Assignments will be given to develop skills and creative thinking. Thursday 3:30-4:30 p.m. Instructor Cathy Siderman $32 M/$42 NM (Supply Fee Included) KIDS - MIXED MEDIA GRAB BAG 3rd - 5th Graders Students will select the media in which they will work. Selections include: clay, paint, watercolor, fabric, sculpture and weavine. Thursday 4:30-5:30 p.m. Instructor: Cathy Siderman BIG POT - LITTLE POT $32 M/$42 NM (Supply Fee Included) 4 Yr. Olds & Adults This is a parent-child sharing experience in clay. Each week you and your partner will develop clay pieces together, through shar ing ideas. Some pieces will involve partners building separate pieces to form a whole scene or pieces added to one clay form. Assignments will be given each week to develop fine motor coor dination skills and creative thinking. Sunday 2:00-3:30 p.m. Instructor: Cathy Siderman $42 M/$52 NM (Supply Fee Included) KIDS KORNER K - 6th Grades The Jewish Community Center of Charlotte will offer an after school program for elementary school students, Monday through Friday (started August 25). Par ticipants may register for two, three or five days of after school ceire and will have the opportunity to feed into the Center’s after school classes. (Classes will be offered in the areas of sports, arts and crafts, drama, dance, cooking, music and much more.) We offer after school van pick-up at several area elementary schools. For further registration information please call the “ J.” LET’S PRETEND 1st & 2nd Graders An 8-week creative dramatics workshop desired to encourage children to use their imaginations, communication skills and become aware of their environment. Emphasis is placed on the group effort. Tuesday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $20 M/$30 NM Instructor: Becky Cairnes I.ET’S MAKE A PLAY 3rd & 4th Graders An 8-week workshop designed to introduce participants to the world of theatre. Students will learn the basic tools of acting through the use of creative drama techniques. Creative dramatics encourages the use of the play environment to increase com munication, self awareness and ensemble skills. Those who par ticipate in the fall, winter and spring workshops will be eligible for a group production to be presented in the spring. Tuesday 4:15-5:15 p.m. $20M/$30 NM Instructor: Becky Cairnes DRAMA I 5th & 6th Graders A creative dramatics workshop with an emphasis on theater techniques. Workshops are geared towards teaching children to develop knowledge of self, acquire knowledge of others, develop capacities to communicate and increase abilities to focus and concentrate. Monday 2:30 -3:00 p.m. $20 M/$30 NM Instructor: Colleen Epstein STORYART Kindergarteners Each afternnon these children will listen to or act out a story of their selection and create their own imaginative art project. Monday 3:30-4:30 p.m. $20 M/$30 NM Instructor; Colleen Epstein “A LITTLE OF THIS ~ . LITTLE OF THAT" 1st & 2nd Graders A potpourri class of arts and crafts, cooking, storytelling and much more. Tuesday 3:00-4:00 p.m. $20 M/$30 NM Instructor; Colleen Epstein TRAVELING TOTS 3 & 4 Year Olds Each week these tots will explore a new and exciting mode of transportation. Big wheels, tricycles, mini scooters, trains, planes and cars will be the focus of these workshops. Children will be invited to bring their favorite form of transportation and then create imaginative projects. Tuesday 2:00-3:00 p.m. $20 M/$30 NM Instructor; Colleen Epstein KIDS CUISINE I 3rd & 4th Graders An opportunity for your young child to learn how to help you out in the kitchen. These httle chefs will leam how to make tiieir own snacks and simple meals along with basic kitchen safety skills. Wednesday 3;30-4:30 p.m. $25 M/$35 NM Instructor: Colleen Epstein HEALTH FOOD NUTS 5th Graders Who says that you can’t eat nutritionally and have fun too? These cooks will leam how to prepare nutritious vegetarian snacks and meals. They will cook in a wok, bake their own bread in addition to basic kitchen safety skills. Wednesday 4:309-5:30 p.m. $25 M/$35 NM Instructor: Colleen Epstein PUNK FUNK PARAPHENALIA 4th - 6th Graders Make your own punk funk paraphenalia: funky jewelry, splat ter painted sweatshirts and sneakers.
