Page 10-THE NEWS-November, 1986 Women^s Division of Federation Shalom Y^all: Sundaes on Wednesdays By Jody Pinion The Women’s Division of The Charlotte Jewish Federa tion hosted another Shalom Y’all party for Newcomers. Our Sundaes on Wednesday were delicious and very well received. We indulged in such temptations as cookie crumbs, nuts, M & Ms and chocolate syrup on chocolate or vanilla ice cream. Now several pounds heavier are: Howard Schrott here in Chju-lotte 4V? months. He is president of CarAvelle and owns several radio stations in North and South Carolina. Formerly from Indianapolis, he enjoys collecting antiques and, of course, listening to the radio. Wendy Reyner has been here 10 years but has decided to get more involved in the Jewish community. She is single, a stockbroker for Interstate Securities, and teaches aerobics twice a week at CPCC. Barry Rukin has been in Charlotte since the end of Feb. He was visibly impressed with his first visit to Shdom Park. Recently graduated from Win- throp College with a BS in Marketing, he now works part time for Muhleman Marketing and is involved in the NBA Franchise promotion. He is single and enjoys playing basketball. Alan and Iris Madison were in attendance with their 7-week-old daughter Stephanie Ann. The “newest” new comers of the evening, Alan and Iris had been here just 11 days from the Quad cities in Iowa on the Mississippi River. Alan is the Plant Manager of George Goulston Company in Monroe which manufactures chemicals for the fiber in dustry. Iris is a social worker looking for work. Variety of programs offered. pany. Shirlee is a retired school teacher. They have two daughters; Jessica, 9 and Shelley, 3. Jim enjoys golf and volleyball. They are already in volved in much of the activity at the ‘J’ and have found it a good place to meet people. Abe and Amalia Warshen- brot, originally from Israel, moved here one month ago from Philadelphia. Abe is a financial officer at Feibus and Company, Inc. They have a son, Cry, 9 and a daughter, Ruth who is 3. In comparing Charlotte to Philadelphia they both agreed “So far, much better!”. Jack and Susan Wexler mov ed to Charlotte five weeks ago from East Windsor, New Jersey. They have three children: Stephanee, 9, Geof frey, 4 and Kara, 18 months. Jack is with Royal Insurance. So far they “love it” here. Fred and Lisa Shporer mov ed from Warwick, Rhode Island one month ago. Fred works for Nabisco; Lisa is ex perienced in retail manage ment and is looking for a job. They enjoy running. To Fred and Lisa, Charlotte has been “great”. Gene and Geri Zhiss have been in Charlotte for two months. Gene came with Meineke when they moved their headquarters here. Formerly from Houston, they were accompanied by their sons Ron, 18, Michael, 14 and Peter, 12. Geri is very involv ed in the Newcomers Club. She is chairing the Tuesday morn ing newcomers’ programs. Leo and Linda Gottlieb mov ed here six weeks ago from East Brunswick, New Jersey with Marisa, 6 and Russell, 3. They have been very impress ed with Charlotte’s sense of community. Leo is with Royal Insurance. Jim and Lynda White have been here five weeks from Arkansas. Jim designs soft ware for the textile industry. They also have three children: Becky, 14, Joan, 11 and Paula, 8. Lynda likes to play bridge. Joe! and Wendy Kweskin, also with Royal Insurance, moved here two months ago from Fairlawn, New Jersey. They have two children: Ben jamin, 3V2 and Paula, 2V2. Joel was sporting the latest soft ball wear this evening since he plays on Royal’s team. Charlotte a year and a half ago and stayed for fifteen months to see if she liked it here. She liked it so much, she went back long enough to settle her affairs and is now here to stay. She says she’s now looking for “Chapter Two.” Don and Jane Radman, from Cleveland Ohio, left their daughter, 21 and sons, 28 and 26, to come to Charlotte. Don teaches business law at Pfeif fer College; Jane has been sub bing for Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools. They have found Charlotte beautiful. Brian and Barbara Thum mov ed here six months ago from Dallas. Brian is a red estate developer with DeVesco Pacific; Barbara is with First Federal in Financial Sales. They have enjoyed seeing the sights in the surrounding area. Robert and Fran Rosenberg have been enjoying their first five weeks in Charlotte. Fran is in real estate; Robert works for a building supply com pany. Both Robert, Fran and Melissa, 12, have been im pressed with how our com munity has made newcomers feel welcome. Gene Braunfeld is a program analyst with Royal Insviremce and had been in^ Charlotte three months. Formerly from Manhattan, he says he will miss some things but he won’t miss the crowds. He’s had enough and needed a change. He is single, likes music and plans to learn racquetball. After the informal mixing of goo and guests, Sandra Weins tein, chairman of the Shalom Y’all committee, welcomed everyone and gave the organization and club representatives an opportuni ty to introduce themselves. The newcomers were urged to speak with any representative from whom they needed more information. Those present were: Jeff Turk, B’nm B’rith Lodge; Maddie Joffe, HaLai- lah BBW; Diggie Pesakoff, Temple Beth El V’Shalom; Ellie Katz, peer counselor for WomanReach; Ron Katz, pres ident of Charlotte Jewish Federation; Bobbi Bernstein, president of Women’s Divi sion of Federation; Miriam Darholt, Rosaline Mann of Dorothy Gutmann Chapter of Hadassah; Marvin Bienstock, Executive Director of the Federation; Mariashi Groner, Lubavitch; Jackie Fishman, Adult Program Director of the ‘J’; Elaine Chemotsky, Jewish Social Services; Judy Van Glish, Temple Israel.
