Thoughts From Adrienne By Adrienne Rosenberg JSS Director “My husband left me, and I don’t know how I’m going to manage...” “I feel like I'm going crazy. Can I talk with someone there...” “We’ve just moved to Charlotte, and I’m so unhappy...” “My son used to be such a good student, but now he’s withdrawn and is failing at school. He is so hostile at home when we question him. Do you think he’s on drugs?... “We used to be so close, but now we hardly do things together. Do you do marriage counseling?...” “I’m having problems deal ing with the fact I’ve just turned 50. Life seems to have passed me by...” “My pjirents are in ill health and I don’t know how to han dle it. Someone suggested I call you...” These are just some of the reasons people call Jewish Social Services to make ap pointments for marriage, fami ly, and individual counseling. We have found that the de mand for appointments far ex ceeds worker availability. As a result, we have found ourselves having to establish a counseling waiting list or referring people to other agen cies or practitioners in the community. In an effort to meet the de mand and to no longer have a waiting list, Jewish Socied Ser vices is in the process of inter viewing and hiring contract counselors to see people when they call. In this way, we will be expainding our counseling staff and services. All Jewish Social Services counselors have a minimum of a Master’s degree and several years experience in working with individual and family pro blems. They are required to at tend workshops and supervi sion to maintain and increase their counseling skills and knowledge. All of our staff members currently are Jewish. An intake interview can be arranged by calling me at 366-5007. At this time a worker assignment will be made and the fee for the counseling services will be set. The agency fees are based on a sliding fee scede. All contacts with Jewish Social Services are confiden tial. No information C2m be ob tained by someone else without a release of informa tion form signed by the client. If anyone feels uncomfortable being seen at Shalom Park, home visits or another setting for the counseling sessions can be arranged.
