Page 7-THE NEWS-November,1986 This *11 That Wojnowich Lori (Mrs. Saul) Wojnowich was reelected president of the Charlotte Chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at a recent dinner meeting. Roz (Mrs. Stan) Greenspon was reelected co-vice president of corporate fund ing. Barbara Checkner was named the new vice president of education and Dr. Scott Jaben is the new chairman of the board of directors. Among those receiving plaques for outstand ing service this past year were Roz and Stan Greenspon. Laurie Behar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Behar, is one of six college students from Mecklenburg County to have received William Tasse Alexander Scholarships from the Foundation for the Carolinas. The merit scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $3,500, are awarded to undergraduates in the field of education. Laurie is a student at Appalachian State University. Behar Benjy Sutker, son of Judy Sutker and Stephen Sutker, a senior at UNC-CH, has been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He plans to attend Medical School after graduation this coming May. • Faye P. The ceremony was held at the Ambassador’s residence in Herzlia Pituah. • JERUSALEM (JTA ) - The tiny Japanese community of Jerusalem grew by seven this summer when a group from Japan came to study He brew at the Rothberg School for Overseas Students at the Hebrew University of Jerusa lem. It is believed that this was the first time a group from Japan came to the uni versity for the specific purpose of studying Hebrew. The old est student was 80-years-old and the youngest was 27. They all said it was difficult to learn Hebrew, but that they enjoyed themselves. One wo man had already studied some Hebrew in Japan. • JERUSALEM (JTA) - He brew University archaeolo gists digging south of the Carmel range have uncovered the remains of a winery some 1,500 years old. It is located at Ramat Hanadiv, near the modem winery operated in Ziehron Yaacov. No samples were found. Other discoveries in the region date from the Roman-Byzantine periods. They include a massive Roman structure which may have been a fortress overlook ing the ancient city of Caesarea on the coast. • TEL AVIV (JTA) - El Al, Israel’s national airline, may be sold to private investors. According to the report, the sale is under consideration by the Ministers of Finance, Transport and Economic Af- ' fairs, who are discussing it with Los Angeles business man William Beltsberg. The government-owned air carrier has an accumulated debt estimated at $340 million.
