Page 5-THE NEWS'December,1986 Hebrew Academy News Your Federation Dollars At Work HERE Succoth: A Time For Rejoicing By Cheryl Spangenthal The Sukkah is a place of re joicing and festivity for the whole family. Another name for Succoth is the “Season of our Rejoicing” for the Torah Commandment; to “rejoice” is mentioned more often in con nection with the holiday of Succoth than for any other Yom Tov. The joy and excitement of the children at the Hebrew Academy was contagious. After buUding the Sukk^, the children lined the inside walls and ceilings with bright color ful decorations which they made. The kindergarteners and first graders prepared a fruit salad (symbolic of the fruit of the harvest) which they placed in the Sukkah for all to eat. The children from Gan Yeladim (Lubavitch nursery school) were invited to join in I|Pp Chanukah Program To **Kickoff** Recruitment Academy and Lubavitch pre-school children outside the Sukkah. photo/Roger Meyers The recruitment campaign for the 1987-88 school year will be launched at a Chanukah Program at Shalom Park, Gorelick Hall, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m. Parents and nursery school age children are invited to join with us in celebrating this holiday of rededication. For reservations call Berta Straz, Administrator, 366-5007, or Ruth Goldberg. Recruitment Chairman, 366-8903. In January, prospective families will be invited to come and observe at the Academy. The recruitment committee, Marlene Fuerstman, Sandra Levine, Roberta Malickson and Amalia Warshenbrot, will also be making visits to families who desire more information. The Academy welcomes in quiries of parents of kindergarten-6th grade children. Please call the Academy office, 366-5007, for further information. the celebration. What a warm, “heimishe” atmosphere it was to see young children sitting on the laps of older ones, sing ing songs pertaining to the holidays, saying the b’rachot and eating in the Sukkah. The symbol of “togetherness under one roof” was preveilent as the faces of a three-year-old and a twelve-year-old told their own story as they sat together eating and talking. The Torah instructs us to take four fruits (lulav, etrog, hadassim and aravot) and bring them together, for they complement each other. So, too, does one Jew complement another. Only when there is true harmony amongst all Jewish people can we hope for a peaceful existence. May it happen soon!!!!!
