Page 15-THE NEWS-January,1987 Noted Biblical Scholar To Speak W9- I. Itzhaki Lt. Colonel Itzhak Itzhaki, a noted biblical scholar from Israel, will speak Wednesday, February 4 at 8 p.m. at Shalom Park. Lt. Colonel Izhaki retired from the Israel Defense Forces in 1969 after having served as head of its famed Yediat Ha-aretz (Knowledge of the Land) pro gram. Since his retirement, he has been Director of the Pedigogic Center of the Israel Ministry of Education and as educational consultant to many institutions in Israel and South Africa. His prin cipal work in Israel is training teachers of Bible and conduc ting adult seminars and courses on Bible and Jewish History. Lt. Colonel Itzhaki’s visit and speech is being cospon sored by the Charlotte Lodge of B’nai B’rith and the Charlotte Jewish Federation. The program is open to the public at no charge. Rabbi Yoseph Groner will speak on the intriguing topic: “Jewish Mysticism Through the Eyes of the Lubavitch”. Refreshments and discussion will follow. This is Hadassah’s second study group on Jewish Mysticism. On Wed., Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m., Gladys Lavitan returns to raise you out of the “winter doldrums” with an enactment from “The Jewish Wife” by Bertold Brecht. P. to Raenea at 542-8000 for either or both events. **Music Interlude** by Hadassah By Linda Gottlieb The Charlotte Chapter of Hadassah will hold its annual JNF meeting on Wed., Jan.21 at 10 a.m. at Temple Israel. After a brief business meeting, Mr. Samuel Citron will again by popular demand present his program on “A History of Jewish Music.” Mr. Citron will play the violin and be accompanied by pianist Cynthia Hunt. This is a cultural opportunity not to be missed. New and perspective members are also invited to share this experience. A brunch will follow the program. Members are requested to bring their Blue Boxes. The proceeds collected from these boxes go directly to the Jewish National Fund in Israel to help in land reclama tion and development. Cost of the meeting is $4.50 per person. Luski S. Kahn S. Gorelick “If I Live to See Next Fall,” a musical set in the Depression- era South featuring music and lyrics by Ch£u*lotte songwriter Si Kahn, was performed during December in the Johnsoh Theatre of the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville. The play, which won critical raves at Charleston’s Spoleto Festival in 1984, is a fictional account of an actual attempt to form a union for tenant feirmers in Arkansas in the 1930s. • Shelton Gorelick has been appointed to First Union National Bank of North Carolina board of directors. Rabbi Jacob Luski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Abe Luski, has been installed as President of the Southeast Region Rabbinical Assembly of the United Synagogue of America. • A $25,000 check was presented to the Charlotte City Coun cil by Abe Luski, in memory of the crew of the Challenger, to be used for a park in their honor. He gave this on the 25th an niversary of his livmg in Charlotte. He came to the U.S. 26 years ago from Cuba. Other contributors of the $25,000 were his brother, Isaac Luski, and his friends and business associates. Bill and Shelton Gorelick. The partners of Laventhal & Horwath have received the Prime Minister’s Medal of the State of Israel for securing the sale of $10,900,000 in State of Israel securities.
