The Older Adults of our
community were the guests at
a lovely luncheon on Jan. 15 at
Shalom Park. After a sump-
tious meal was served, they
were entertained by Marvin
Bienstock who strummed his
guitar and sang Yiddish songs
which were tape recorded.
This tape is being distributed
to those older adults who are
confined to area nursing
homes.
February 8 marked Char
lotte B’nai B’rith Women’s
second annual Mental Health
Fair, at Eastland Mall. This
fair, cosponsored by B’nai
B’rith Women and the Mental
Health Association was a
huge success. Various agen
cies were on hand with free in
formation for the public.
Children were entertained
with story telling, coloring and
a puppet show presented by
“Kids on the Block”.
The Senior Women of our
chapter have been enjoying an
extremely productive year.
For the past two months they
have been making hand pup
pets that will be presented in
March to the Howell Center on
Albemarle Rd. This center is a
residential treatment center
for the profoundly retarded.
The founder of this center and
three others in the state, Irene
Smith Howell, was the 21st
recipient of the chapter’s
Human Relations Award in
February.
Charlotte members are busy
at work again msiking tapes to
be distributed to the pediatric
wards at Charlotte Memorial
and Presbyterian Hospitals.
These tapes of stories, poems
and nursery rhymes are given
to the “kids” when they are
confined to their beds or when
they are waiting for tests to be
administered. If anyone is in
terested in taping for this wor-
thwile cause please notify
Margie Liebstein, 541-1844.
In conjunction with the na
tional G.E.N.E. (Genetics
Everyone Needs Education)
program and the Meirch of
Dimes, Charlotte Chapter will
sponsor a Sickle Cell Anemia
Screening at Outlet Square on
March 29.

Maddie and Phil Joffe’s
home was the setting for
HaLailah’s annual winter
social. The “Come as You
Are” theme brought fifty-four
people together for good com
pany, good food and a good
time.
Pasta by Penny: Penny
Eisenberg showed the girls of
Hunter House how to prepare
some nutritious yet inexpen
sive pasta meals. Colleen Eps
tein, Meredith Glazer, Linda
Spil, Lauren Lassman, Patti
Sher and Maddie Joffe
brought the extras to round
out dinner and had a wonder
ful time playing with the
babies while their mothers
were having cooking lessons.
Turkey, fresh green beans,
parsleyed potatoes and sorbet
was the menu for HaLailah’s
Older Adult Luncheon. We
had a record crowd of twenty-
seven people.
Chai-Chaverim BBG’s
talent show with the help of
Josh Rosen was the highlight
of the afternoon. Jackie
Stutts, her mother, Eva
Miller, and their committee:
Cheryl Comen, Meredith
Glazer, Colleen Epstein, Dayle
Fligel, Florence Widis, Patti
Weisman, Wendy Rosen,
Maddie Joffe, Marty Gerber
and Lizzann Taylor all enjoyed
working on this wonderful
