Kiddush was said and the
challah cut.
Every table had bottles of
wine from Israel and a large
challah as well. It was very
festive. The Mayor, who wore
a yarmulke at all occasions,
came to each table to greet us.
At one evening function the
Mayor present^ a large check
to the representative of the
German-Israeli Society. The
money was to help enable the
young German people to meet
young Israelis for a better
understanding of their reli
gions and cultures.
All in all, it was an unforget
table experience and also an

Marvin Bienstock was
honored on Sunday evening,
June 28 prior to his departure
from Charlotte after twelve
years of actively participating
in the Jewish community and
the Charlotte community at
large.
Richard Klein, emcee for the
evening, welcomed the guests
and those present to honor
Marvin with their remarks.
Mayor Harvey Gantt pro
claimed June 28 as M.B. Day
and was eloquent in his
remarks about Marvin. The
“Toast-Roast” Program was
delightful and entertaining as
weU as very meaningful to
Marvin and his family.
Phil Joffe, emcee of the
“Roast”, participated with
Barbara Hill, Lorrie Colish,
Bill Hill and Maddie Joffe in a
“Jeopardy” style program,
drawing much laughter and
fun.
The “Toasts” honoring Mar
vin were made by Kal Kar-
dous, Sol Shapiro, D.G. Mar

Herman Blumenthal, who
presented a guitar decoupaged
with highlights of Marvin’s
career along with a check.
Ada Shapiro presented a
selection of four prints from
the “Photography Showing
Bienstock” on display in the
Speizman Galleries. To con
clude the evening Rabbi
Robert Seigel offered remarks
and honored the family with a
prayer.

Weinberg Goldstein fled
Fulda, Germany during Hit-
ler's reign and survived the
Holocaust. She has been in
America for almost 50 years,
in Charlotte for 25. Milly, a
widow with two grown child
ren and one grandchild, is a
member of Temple Israel. In
1939, a year after she arrived
in the U.S., she received her
last letter from her parents.
They died in one of the concen
tration camps.
