Business and Professional Forum Formed
A new opportunity has been
created in Charlotte for Jewish
business and professional
leaders to come together for
informal fellowship and
discussion of mutual concerns.
The business and Professional
Forum was created at the in
centive of Herman Blumen-
thal and Rabbi Marc Wilson
as a monthly occasion to have
lunch, engage in stimulating
discussion and exchange
ideas. The Forum is entirely ad
hoc, representing no particidar
institution, position or
orientation.
The Forum’s focus will in
clude issues in our Jewish
community, matters of civic
and social concern, Jewish cur
rent events and contemporary
issues. Sometimes there will
be a set topic, and other times
the group may decide simply
to “kibbitz.”
All members of the Jewish
business and professional
community are cordially in
vited to participate in the
Forum. The founding meeting
of the Business and Profes
sional Forum will be held at
Jonathan’s Uptown, 330
North Tryon, on Monday,
Aug. 17, 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.
The Forums will continue to
meet on the third Monday of
each month at lunchtime.

in the newly founded Business
and Professional Forum.
Speizman Jewisli Library To Open Soon
A new Jewish community
library is growing this summer
at Shalom Park. Located
directly across the hall from
the Temple Religious School
offices in the Blumenthal
Education Building, the
library will be open as a
reading room during this
move-in phase. As a new
community-based library
resource center, we need your
input to create a future-
oriented collection to serve our
burgeoning community. Your
participation is sought:
1. As a library VOLUN
TEER, become a “person of
the books”. No experience
necessary, all training pro
vided — many varied library
duties available.
2. Let us know your Jewish
book and periodical preferences.
The library will be as respon
sive and representative as you
allow it to be.
3. And, of course, DONA
TIONS, to a new Speizman
Shalom Park Jewish Library
Fund, “in honor” or “in
memory” will be graciously
and gratefully accepted and
acknowledged. Bookplates will
be affixed to permanently
denote contributions, and
thank you notes will be sent.
Watch future issues of The
CJN for the Ubrary “WISH
LIST” — a list of needed
books which we would like to
add to our collection, which
you can “sponsor” through
donations to the Library
Fund. What a wonderful way
to remember a child or grand
child’s birthday every year.
What better way to note a
special simcha. You tell us
which book on the list you’d
like to sponsor — let us take
care of the ordering, acknow
ledgements and bookplates!

(edition within the last 2 years)
general encyclopedia — The
World Book or the Encyclo

grams coordinated with the
various religious schools will
resume and expand.

Jewish community’s kick-off
of Jewish Book Month. The
celebration will include a
Jewish Book Fair; a gigantic
Used Book Sale (all proceeds
turned back over into funds to
buy new books for the library);
special book-related programs
for children and adults; and of
course, the library’s “Grand
Opening”.
The Speizman Shalom Park
Jewish Library is managed by
the Library Committee of the
Foundation. Each partner and
Jewish Organization in the
conmiunity has a represen
tative who serves on this
committee.
