Henry of Birmingham, England, was given to the Foundation by Sandra and Leon Levine and family in memory of their aunt Jean P. Ravitz. The realistic warmly hued artwork is hung in the Adult Lounge for all to enjoy. A silver and brass hand crafted mezzuzah by Israeli ar tist Frank Meisler has been donated by Florence and Ben Jaffa and Janet and Sol Jaffa. It wil be hung at the entrance to the Adult Lounge off the Jewish Community Center foyer. Its contemporary design blends with the ar chitectural style that sur rounds it. The Charlotte Yiddish In stitute selected from our art show and sale, “Mystical, Magical, Miracle, Recent Israeli Art’’ the serigraph “Synagogue at Safed” as their gift to the Foundation. The work is the product of artist Shmuel Katz. The Sephardic synagogue interior depicted in the piece is a nostalgic reminder to many who have visited this religious site. The three contributions are valued additions to the Foun dation’s collection of artwork. It is through the generosity of the donors that the Shalom Park complex continues to be enhanced artistically. Contact Ethel Gordon, 366-0527, if you wish to be a donor. Goldman The following is only one ex ample of Judy’s poetry. MY MOTHER S SHOES Aunt Sarah never forgave her for being Margaret. Too many names jammed Mother’s dance cards, hummed a tune her sister could not follow. The laugh, her eyes the color of coffee drew friends like a party. My aunt tasted Mother's beauty from silver loving cups lighting their dresser, choking as if a diamond ring were caught in her throat. Mother’s romantic husband, smocked children: we even lived on Eden Terrace. Today Aunt Sarah hauled off all the shoes my mother left, one size too small, determined to wear them at last.
