Page 8-THE NEWS-October, 1987 In And Around The JCC Let’s Celebrate Succoth Together The Jewish Community Center’s Adult and Youth Depart ments invite you to celebrate Succoth, the original Thanksgiv ing, with us on Sunday, October 11, 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Shalom Park. Joining the J family will be members of Myers Park Bap tist Church, who will partake with us in an interfaith pot luck supper commemorating The Festival of Booths. Participemts will be asked to choose one of the recipes listed below to prepare and bring to the supper. We’ll meet under and around the Sukkah for song and prayer, and then adjourn to Gorelick Hall for an informal hour of seasonal food and good fellowship. Please come! Please bring enough for 10 people APPLE CAKE 2 cups flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla ^2 cup margarine (look for K or U on package} 1 egg 2 tbs. cold water ^/2 cup sugar Sift flour beiking powder and salt. Make well in flour and add all ingredients. Knead together quickly. Put % of dough into greased pan and bake in hot oven until brown. Fill with: yz lb. dried apples 1 cup water ‘/2 cup sugar 1 tbs. cinnamon 3 tbs. raisins Cover apples with water and steam until soft. Chop cooled apples. Put on top of baked crust, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Roll out remaining dough for crust over apples. Brush with beaten egg yolk and bake 25 minutes. Or your own apple dessert BLINTZ SOUFFLE 2 pkgs. frozen blintzes defrosted lb. butter 4 eggs well beaten 1 ^2 cups sour cream ‘/4 cup sugar V2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tbs. orange juice BAGELS AND CREAM CHEESE Melt butter in 2 qt. casserole. Place blintzes over butter in one layer. Blend other ingredients with eggs and pour over blintzes. Bake 45 minutes at 350® or until top starts to brown. Tum By Naw World Racords 1st Hoyaa On Laft After School News The JCC sponsors an after school program for elementary school students, Monday- Friday from 1:30-6 p.m. Par ticipants may register for two, three, or five days of care and will have the opportunity to participate in the JCC’s after school classes. Van pick-up available for: Lansdowne Elementary, Old Providence Elementary, Rama Road Elementary and Cotswold Elementary. The fees with no van pick-up are $25 per week membiers/$30 per week non-members. With van pick-up, $30 per week members/$35 per week non members. Our program is taking some new directions and we want to share this with you. First, our afternoon enrichment classes will be offered to those en rolled in our after school pro gram at a 50 percent discount. This applies to classes scheduled during the after school program. Now is the time to give your child a wonderful opportunity to par ticipate in the many varied classes being offered such as swimming, dance, arts and crafts, games, cooking and music. Please check your fall catalog for details of classes available. In addition to class offer ings, we will continue to pro vide quality care for your child and a regular schedule of acti vities within the after school progrjun. Those activities will include a nutritious snack; a quiet time for homework and/or rest; arts and crafts; recre ational activities in the gym, game room and on the play ground. Senior Health Clinic Community Health Ser vices, a Unit^ Way Agency, will sponsor their fourth health clinic for persons over 55 at the J on Wed., Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. until noon. Blood pressure and pulse will be checked in addition to administering flu vaccines. There will be a one time $5 charge for all four clinics and an additional $3 charge for the flu vaccine.
