George Ackerman and Leo Hoffman will present a skit\by
Sholom Aleichem and others.
Movie: Yiddish — “The Mame Loshn”
A comprehensive look at a unique and tenacious language and
culture. The film features the comments of author Leo Rosten;
actor Herschel Bemardi tracing the history of the language and
its impact on common English usage. Through interviews, ex
cerpts from Yiddish films, Yiddish poetry and music of the Klez-
morim, the pleasures of Yiddish as language and culture are
simply and memorably evoked.
MARCH 13, 1988, 8 p.m.
Movie: “The Fixer” — Based on the acclaimed novel by Ber
nard Maiamud.
A dramatic story of a Jewish handyman in Czarist Russia who
attempts to pass himself off as a gentile to avoid persecution.
The film follows his travail in prison to his demand for a trial
where his predicament is seen as symbolic of all those who suf
fer the indignity of prejudice and injustice.
APRIL 10, 1988, 8 p.m.
Movie: “The Revolt Of Job” — 1984 Academy Award For Best
Foreign Film
Set in a little Hungarian village in 1943, the film tells the story
of an elderly Jewish couple who adopt a small Catholic boy as
their heir in an effort to pass on their we£ilth and knowledge
before Nazi oppression consumes Hungary. This warm and lov
ing film incorporates both humor and social observation as this
wild child is tamed through the understanding and patience of
the couple he comes to regard as his parents.

Movie: “The Brothers Karamazov”
Cast: Yul Brynner, Maria Schell, Claire Bloom, Lee J. Cobb,
Richard Basehart, William Shatner, Albert Salmi.
An extremely vivid rendering of Dostoyevsky’s immortal
classic. The drama, concerning a premeditated act of patricide,
unfolds through the fine performances of Brynner, Basehart and
Shatner as the three very different and passionate sons.
