Page 20-THE NEWS^ecember, 1967 Our Organizations HaLailah BBW The home of Penny Eisen- berg was the scene of HaLailah’s Nov. 10 meeting. Penny demonstrated tech niques for creating several ele gant desserts to grace our Thanksgiving tables. It was a fun and well-attended evening. • Members of HaLailah served on the steering committee for Charlotte Cares Conference, a Symposium on Drug and Sub stance Abuse. The program, which was open to the public, was held at the Marriott City Center on Nov. 17. Many thanks to Penny Eisenberg for her participation in this infor mative public service. • Once again on November 24, HaLailah members prepared a lovely Thanksgiving dinner for the Chai group. • The Book Fair, sponsored by HaLailah, was to be held the first week of December in the JCC Adult Lounge. A special feature of this year’s Fair is Create-A-Book. Chil dren can have a Chanukah story book individualized especially for them. If we miss you when we call, please call either Iris Spil, 364-3051 or Peggie Rovman, 552-2010. CVS Projects TAPE-A-TALE, a national project, has been adopted loc^y. Members record short stories, poems and music that are presented with tape re corders to the pediatric wards in local hospitals. These tapes are used during quiet time for the children confined to bed or while w£iiting for tests. Charlotte Chapter BBW will again provide meals to the Rachel House. If you would like to cook a dinner and/or help at the Home, call Terri Cathcart, 554-1081. This year we sent out a re cord of over 1700 community calendars. This feat was ac complished by 28 members who solicited ads, made phone calls, stamped and stuffed envelopes, proofed the calen dar and finedly stuffed the calendar. Winners of our “Sell the most dollar amount in Ads contest” are: 1st Place ($40 gift certificate from Ivey’s) to Beth Lindermem for $430 new ads. 2nd Place ($25 gift certi ficate from Bakers Unlimited) to Thelma Levy for $240 new ads. The Conmiunity Calendar will be placed in every Shalom Y’all basket for each new comer this year. A panel discussion on AIDS facilitated by B.J. Harris of WSOC-TV, featured Dr. Jared Schwartz, Director of Patho logy at Presbyterian Hospital; Les Kooyman, Director Meck lenburg AIDS Project; Glenn Blaisfield, American Red Cross; Beth Mills, RN from Hospice. Thank you to Helen Rosenbaum who co ordinated this project. On Nov. 6, Dorothy Shapiro, Margie Liebstein, Renee Vitt, Harriet Hurlich, Aline Lor- ber, Helen Rosenbaum, Esther Gold, Nancy Kornhauser and Beth Linderman worked as buddies or score keepers at the Fall Bowling Special Olym pics. Thanks to Janine Rosner for chairing this. In late October, Dorothy Shapiro and Bussie Goldberg made a “Mitzvah” trip to Howell Center, a residential home for severely hguidicap- ped people. They delivered pillows used for positioning. This project will continue through the help of our members. BBYO Winter Cultural Some of our members parti cipated in the 1987 BBYO Winter Cultural being judges for their events. It was also a great opportunity to see our future, the youth, doing such a wonderful job. Charlotte Chapter Excels Again The Sidney G. Kusworm award is given each year to B’nai B’rith Women’s chapter in recognition of Comprehen sive Community Volunteer Service Projects and Pro grams by B’nai B’rith Interna tional.
