Page 9-THE NEWS-December, 1987 Wometi*s Division of Federation Mark and Roberta Malton Nicki and Rob Abromowitz Shalom Y’all Greets Newcomers By Jody Pinion Shalom Y’all held a wine and cheese get-together for new comers October 23 in Gorelick Hall. Fourteen newcomers en joyed brie, grapes, wine and crackers while meeting other newcomers and organization representatives. Jake Rothschild has been in Charlotte since February. He runs his own businesses: The Problems Solved: VIP Ser vices and Function Planning and Minithanks, a gourmet hot chocolate mix. He moved from Chapel Hill and is pre sently the coordinator of Pizazz, the young Jewish singles group. Steven and Nina Haas are really “returnees”, having lived in Charlotte twelve years ago. They moved here four months ago from Miami. Steven is the Cantor and musical director at ’ Temple Beth El V’Shalom. Nina is in volved with programming at the Temple and is also a pro fessional photographer. They have a daughter, Laila, 2Vi years-old. Mark and Roberta Malton, here just one month from Pitts burgh have found people very friendly. Mcirk is an ophthal mologist. Roberta is job hun ting in retail. They enjoy bas ketball and tennis. Stacy Vines, arrived two months ago from Connecticut. Single, she moved because the cost of living here is lower. She is employed by Toshiba Busi ness Systems. Bruce and Rose Ellen Jacob- sohn are from Philadelphia. Both attorneys, Bruce is in private practice; Rose Ellen is still unpacking. They raise Bouvier Des Flandres and have three children: Mara, 12; Michael, 9; Carrie, 8. Mark Farbman arrived in Charlotte several years ago, but attended school at NC State in Raleigh, having re ceived both his Bachelors and Masters there. He returned to Charlotte four months ago from Raleigh. He imports mer chandise but in his spare time, he enjoys reading, gardening, cycling and travel. The Lion of Judah—Pace- in Texas being trained by the Richard Roskind and Steven Haas new home. Mike is the new Federation Director, Janet is at home at present. They have two sons: Benjamin, 16 and Josh, 13. After the Federation Ceimpaign is over, Mike hopes to so some running. Rob Abromowitz and Vicki Derderian moved from Boston two months ago. Rob is the Program Manager of the Adolescent and Family Pro gram at Presbyterian Hospi tal. Vicki is enjoying Evan, 1V2 ye£irs old. So far, they say they like Charlotte a lot. Ivan and Roz Cooper have been in Charlotte since August from Colorado. Roz is the Director of Education at Temple Beth El V’Shalom, Ivan is an environmental engineer. They have three children: Alana, 13; Micah, 10; Shir a, 7. They have found Charlotte “too flat” but the people are OK. Marty and Helene Jankowitz are also “returnees”, returning from Raleigh after 3‘/a yejirs. Marty works for Hasty and Associates, Helene works part time at Ivey’s. They have three daughters: Cheryl, 22, works at the J; Audrey, 20; Marcy, 17. They are “glad to be back”. Tryon) 376-0131 setters event of the Women’s Division of the Charlotte Jewish Federation was held Sunday evening, Nov. 1 at the home of Leon and Sandra Levine. Tovah Feldshuh, an acclaimed actress of Broad way, television and feature films, was the guest speaker. Tovah shared her personal experiences of traveling to Israel with her husband dur ing the time she was pregnant with their first child. Tovah In sisted they make the trip, which was her husband’s first to Israel. She recalled their visit to the Western Wall, £ind how they had written a prayer for the good health of their unborn child. Together they placed their special note in one crack of the Wall. When visiting Yad Vashem, she went into the Hall of Records and discovered what had happened to the Feldshuh family of Vienna. Most of her relatives had perished in the Holocaust. Miraculously, one cousin escaped and made his way to Israel, where he serv ed in all the wars. Tovah was reunited with that family. Recently, her cousin’s son was U.S. Air Force to fly Israeli aircraft. Emily Zimmern, president of Women’s Division, in wel coming all to the program, spoke of the importance of women giving at the leader ship levels. Meg Goldstein gave the Campaign '88 Update. She an nounced that there were seven Lion of Judah Donors and 26 Pacesetters. Lion of Judah donors are: Bobbi Bernstein, Anita Blu- menthal, Renee Gorelick, Pearl Kier, Gloria Lerner, San dra Levine, and Lynn Lerner, the newest member. Pacesetters are; Jean Anoff, Dorothy Ashendorf, Louise Bernstein, Lee Blumenthal, Mimi Feibus, Ruth Goldberg, Meg Goldstein, Mrs. I. Gorelick, Patti Gorelick, G.G. Kosch, Helene Levine, Rose Luski, Mildred Lyons, Henri etta Meltsner, Cindy Merkin, Baila Pransky, Sylvia Speiz- man, Ena Stern and Emily Zimmern.
