Page 12-THE NEWS-January, 1988 Women*s Division of Federation Newcomers Receive Warm Welcome By Jody Pinion Another Shalom Y’all get- together, sponsored by the Women’s Division of the Char lotte Jewish Federation on December 9, featured wine, cheese, crackers and soft drinks. I was fortunate to meet 18 newcomers as we mingled and talked further with: Solomon and Elvira Bumsh- tein, who moved to Charlotte one and a half years ago, most recently from Birmingham, Alabama, Originally from Russia, they have been in the states 12 years. Solomon works for an engineering firm. Elvira is in accounting. They have two children: Irene, 21, and Marsha, 15. They like it here £ind feel “pretty settled.” Richard and Ruth Feldman have been here since October from Philadelphia. Richard is the Assistant Director for Psychiatry at Gaston Memori al Hospital. Ruth plans to begin part-time work as a pediatric occupational thera pist. They were accompanied by their 10-month-old daugh ter, Sarah Rose. They like Charlotte very much and are impressed by the outgoing quality of the people. Arthur and Sylvia Gordon moved to Charlotte in June from Pennsylvania. They have several relatives already here, including two children. They ’ are retired now and “love it here.” Susan Blumberg is a violinist with the Charlotte Symphony. She moved here in mid- September from Washington, D.C. She is single and enjoys horseback riding. She has found people very friendly. Abner and Ruth Firestone Eire here just two months from New York. They have three sons, including one who moved to Charlotte with his family, so they came along! Abner is retired; Ruth came to be with her grandson Eric. They have found the people and the weather “lovely.” Marcia Hirshfield moved to Charlotte with her fiance Mel Saltz from Israel two weeks ago. Mel works for Willard In dustries. Marcia has two children: Daniella, 12, and Micha, 10. Rosalind Taranto has been in Charlotte two and a half months. She sold her business in Columbus, Georgia, picked Charlotte as a progressive southern community, and now she is working as an executive placement director with Posi tion, Inc. She has three daugh ters and two grandsons. Barry and Lisa Wohl re ceived the newest newcomer prize for the evening. They have been here just one week from Irvine, California, and came looking for a change in lifestyle. Barry is a writer and editor, looking for employ ment in publishing. Lisa is an RN. What’s not to like about Charlotte? The traffic! Linda and Sam Levy have been in Charlotte four months from Long Island, New York. Sam works for Royal Insur ance as the Corporate Econo mist. Linda is the Federation secretary. They have two chil dren: Simon, 22, and Sharon, 18. They “love it here and won’t go back.” Barry Schneider and Sue Alman have been in Ch2U“lotte since May. Barry, a gastroen terologist, is originally from Winston-Salem. Sue is from New York. She has an MBA in Marketing and is presently job hunting. They enjoy travel \bur Pleasure is Our Pleasure! Jeff and Laura Schwartz moved from Minneapolis in September, Jeff works for Honeywell. Laura is with First Union Brokerage, They have just bought a house and are anxious to move into it with their poodle Curly, They think Charlotte is pretty but they don’t understand the roads, Amy Schiff has been in Charlotte since August from Columbus, Ohio. She is an Armstrong Representative and enjoys basketball, racquetball and working out. Amy says Charlotte has given her a warm welcome and it feels like home. She is single.
