Page 11-THE NEWS-February, 1988 Blumenthal Jewish Home Home Expanding with the Addition of Fair Oaks By Ellen White The Blumenthal Jewish Home has earned a reputation for qu2ility nursing care since welcoming the first residents in 1965. Expansion in 1974 provided further services for intermediate and skilled nurs ing care, and increased capaci ty to 134 residents. The Home is a non-profit corporation found to provide care and services to the elderly of the Carolinas. It is supported by fees, the Jewish F^erations and other contributions. The Home does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, col or or national origin with respect to admission, dis charge or operation. Now on the same campus, we are extending our commit ment to the elderly by offering an assisted living environ ment. FAIR OAKS is for the older adult who seeks a degree of independence with security, companionship and services. FAIR OAKS is a reaffirmation of our primary commitment to provide a place for the elderly to live in dignity with supportive care. What is the security we of fer? A call bell system takes away the worry that one might become physically ill and no one would know. Staff is available 24 hours a day. In At FAIR OAKS a satisfy ing lifestyle is a matter of in dividual choices. The residence is a two-story contemporary- styled building with 20 living units, each with a private bath, on each floor. Only six of the total number are semi- private units. With a little in genuity and attention to the scale of furniture selected, a very comfortable bedroom/sit ting room can be created with the occupant’s own belong ings. Services and amenities include weekly housekeeping service; phone line ready for your service installation; linen service; washer and dryer facilities; bed furnished — other furnishings available; parking for personal car; beau ty and barber shop; and trans portation by arrangement. Three meals a day are served restaurant-style in the dining room, where the laws of Kashruth are observed. Resi dents are encouraged to invite guests to dine with them. The lounge, with its floor to ceiling windows opening onto the ter race, overlooks the grounds and is an ideal place to gather in small groups after a meal. The activities program of fers social and recreational op portunities through discussion groups, a concert and lecture series on campus, theatre and concert outings, an arts and crafts program, and numerous other on and off campus events. Whatever the choices, however, residents are en couraged to continue their in terest in activities that they enjoy. Anticipating the spaces to accommodate residents’ in terests, FAIR OAKS Com mons has a synagogue and friendship room for Jewish and inter-faith religious ser vices, a gift shop and lounge on the m£iin level. In addition, there is a small group activity room on each residence floor, outfitted with a kitchenette and TV. The new Craft Shop is a creative person’s dream come true.
