Page 6-THE NEWS-March, 1988 B Charlotte Jewish Day School Vocif- OoNcw's Wor4i Mara Tu B’Shvat Extravaganza Was a Fun-Filled Afternoon By Berta Straz On Sunday, February 7, the school held a Tu B’Shvat Ex travaganza. We had children of all ages attend and enjoy themselves tremendously. Mar lene Fuerstman was in charge of all the children’s program ming for the special after noon’s events. They sang, danced and even watched a special movie on VHS about the holiday of Tu B’Shvat. Fruit of the trees sundaes were made and everyone ate to their heart’s desire. The afternoon also featured children enjoy ing wooden instruments which are symbolic during this special day; various other games relating to the holiday were featured. At the same time that this was going on, parents of the school children and interested young parents of prospective students were invited to meet the faculty of the school and the new kindergarten teacher for the ’88-’89 school year. It was a most productive after noon for both young and old. Nature, science, ecology and plain fun was incorporated in to this Tu B’Shvat Ex travaganza. Thanks goes to Debbie Telem for planning this event. (L to R) School Staff: Barbara Arnold, Helen Bronson, BerU Straz, Ziva London, Roz Cooper (Ktf. ’88-’89). Happy 200th Birthday, Australia! They are monitoring the “Eagle,” a Coast Guard sail ing ship used to train cadets. The students have to figure the time of arrival in Honolulu sometime in early March. They must also estimate when this ship will be passing the Equator. It left Pago-Pago, and from there to Honolulu is where they will be making their calculations. In order to win this contest, the students must estimate the exact time and date it will be crossing the Equator. The winner will receive a t-shirt, sweatshirt or medal.
