Children decorated bags used for peanut hunt. —Lisa Pharr Charlotte Chapter BBW Elects ’88-89 Officers The paid-up membership luncheon, which honored life and new members, was held on March 23 at Shalom Park. We enjoyed a sumptuous salad bar and assorted desserts. The program featured Charlene Scharf of The Party Store, who presented ideas for home entertaining. Election of of ficers was held: President, Jody Pinion; Administrative VP, Margie Liebstein; Co*CVS VPs, Paula Gentile and Rober ta Naimark; Communications VP, Laurie Wertheimer; Pro gramming VP, Dorothy Sha piro; Fundraising VP, Abbe Bryan; Membership VP, Val erie Blumenthal; Treasurer, Shirley Fytelson; Financial Secretary, Peggy Rovman; Corresponding Secretary, Merle Pervis; Recording Secretary, Helen Rosenbaum; Counselor, Beth Linderman. The luncheon was chaired by Val Blumenthal and Roberta McGinley. DERTTA CHAPEL 6300 Mallard Creek Rd. Derita, N.C. our chapter, the March of Dimes and The Mecklenburg County Health Department cosponsored a Sickle Cell Screening on March 6 at Out let Square. Roberta Naimark chair^ this event. For the fourth year, our members have been going to local pre-schools and screening for amblyopia (lazy eye). When the school year ends, approxi mately 750 children will have been screened. If you would like to join the “screen team” please call Thelma Levy, 541-5784. Once again the chapter has volunteered its service to help out at the Spring Special Olympics on April 14. If you would like to help, please call Janine Rosner, 366-5631. The Older Adult Luncheon will be held on April 19 at 11:30 a.m. at Shalom Park. AU older adults are welcome to en- joy lunch and entertainment. For further information, con tact Margie Liebstein, 541-1844 or Dorothy Shapiro, 364-3724. On March 8, the Seniors met for lunch. They enjoyed spinach lasagne, salad, cake and coffee. The Seniors were of great help to the March of Dimes and helped complete a 2,000-piece mailing. They also continued to make snowmen out of styrofoam balls which they decorated with fabric and yam scraps. These are enjoyed by the children at Arosa House. They are also distributed by the women who visit local nursing homes and will be taken to the children at Alex ander Children’s Center and the Thompson Home. On February 25, the chapter held an Italian dinner at the Arosa House for the children and staff. Thanks go to Thelma Levy, Helen Rosen baum, Roberta Naimark, Mar gie Liebstein and Dorothy Shapiro. Janine Rosner con tributed her wine bottles com plete with the wax drippings. Even the atmosphere was complete with candles and red- checkered tablecloths. There were also many pictures around to show the children scenes of Italy. BBW’s visitation team is growing. Michael Liebstein has joined Thelma Levy and Margie Liebstein for visits with eight of the local resi dents. Iliis trio makes it possi ble for the nursing home resi dents to share and remember the good times in their lives. The smiles of recognition when they see them send out a warm glow. Want to help?
