Page 12-THE NEWS-June/July, 1988 In and Around the JCC Remember the Way Camp Used to Be? By Scott Snyder, Program Director When you discovered your new best friend lived right around the comer? When your group built a secret campsite and you had a secret password to get in? When your counselor hugged you and said your art project was great? When you hit your first softball or sank your first basket? When your group collected the most firewood for an overnight and won a prize? When you learned to make “smores” on your very first overnight? When the magician taught you how to make balloon animals during a late night program? When your heart skipped a beat as you and the rest of your group performed a Shabbat song? When your birthday was during camp and the whole camp sang happy birthday to you? When you went hiking in the woods and you saw animal tracks? When the captain of your tesun said “don’t worry, we’U win the next one?” When you finally learned how to swim the width of the swimming pool? When you chose your favorite activity for Camper Selection Period? When you played soccer, tennis, basketbaU and starred in your group’s Shabbat play? When you tearfully hugged your counselor and said, “I love you, see you next year?” Whether it is Camps Katan, Maccabee, Sjjorts, Creative, Computer, Teen Travel or the LIT program, you can make it happen for your child this summer at the JCC where summer is fun and kids can be kids. His eyes are like saucers and he wishes with crossed fingers, that he could be going too. He can almost feel the cool water in the swim ming pool as the temperature climbs and the step gets too hot for a little boy with short shorts. Where do you come in? YOU can make the difference bet ween a long, boring, hot sum mer and one filled with gig gles, splashes and fun. How? Contribute a little to our Camp Scholarship Fund because a little can go a long way. If every Center member would contribute just $5 or $10, we would have enough to meet our goal. The most important thing to remember is that the Center will deny NO ONE in need. Many families apply for and received “Campersliips.” By helping send a child you will have the opjportunity to win a free session of camp for your child. Tickets are being sold by the Children and Camp Committees and can be pur chased at the JCC reception desk. In order to apply for a campership, contact Barry Hantman or Scott Snyder for an appointment. All informa tion remain strictly con fidential. For an appointment, call 366-5007.
