Page 14-THE NEW&June/July, 1988 More In And Around The JCC Israel in Our Own Back Yard? Fact or Fiction? The original Queen of Charlotte emigrated from Israel. You may not think this is true but the Jewish Community Center Day Camp is going to do everything in its power to prove she did! How will we prove this theory? We wiU stage an ar chaeological dig at our camp site this sunmier. Our campers may get lucky and sift dirt to discover pottery chards, the scroll from a mezuzah or a Roman coin. Each group will dig for its own “artifact" in our Tel. Once something has been unearthed, the group will give the piece a history and enter it in our Day Camp “Museum." How can our members help us prove this theory? If you have any souvenirs from Israel that you can bear to part with: pottery or items such as a tin candlestick, Challah cover, a tin menorah, etc. — we prom ise to give them a good spot in our dig. We can not promise to return them. Use your imagi nation arid have fun! Please bring your “ar tifacts” to the Jewish Com munity Center and write on the box or bag “Attention Jessica Kranz.” We promise to age all items a thousand years or so and bury them where eager archaeologists will dig carefully. Who knows, maybe the Queen of Charlotte reaUy did come from Israel. Nu??
