Charlotte 28282 3764)257 Temple Israel Youngsters Qualify for Finals of National Bible Contest Ever since last October, eight Temple Israel children have been preparing diligent ly for competition in this year’s National Bible Contest. They focused on the Books of Genesis and Esther. We are pleased to announce that two of our students, Heather Binnick, daughter of Linda and Warren Binnick, and Mara Jacobsohn, daughter of Rose-EIlen and Bruce Ja cobsohn, qualified to represent Charlotte in the National Finals in New York. In addi tion to participating in the competition, Heather and Mara have been invited to a Shabbaton Weekend that will bring together young Bible scholars from all over the United States and Canada. The other young Bible scholars who participated in Temple Israel Installs Sound System for Hearing Impaired Temple Israel has recently acquired a sound system for the hearing impair^. It will acconmiodate those worshipers who wear hearing aids and those who require additional amplification. The system is a gift of the Lemer grandchildren, Alexis, Eric, Gary, Julie, Mark and Reid, in loving memory of their grandfather, Dave Lemer, who recently died. They, and the entire Temple Israel family, express gratitude to Allen Saxe for first advocating the acquisi- teSagels tion of such a system. Temple Israel is also grateful to Linda and Dr. Trevor Goldberg and Anne and Harry Schwartz for their generous contributions to this project, enabling the Temple to purchase additional ear phone units. If you need someone to visit, listen, be a friend, then per haps a volunteer from Temple Israel’s Bikkur Chaverim/Vis- iting Friends is for you. The Visiting Friends project, spon sored by Temple Israel’s Sis terhood, is a group of men and women who are available to be caring and supportive friends to the sick who are being dis charged from the hospital, to those who are aging and alone, to those who have recently ex perienced a loss, or to those who are caring for a loved one at home. Bikkur Chaverim/Visiting Friends is now working in close coordination with Mercy Hospital’s H.O.P.E. (Helping Other People Endure) pro gram of outreach to the Char lotte community. Many of the Visiting Friends volunteers have participated in an exten sive training program at Mer cy Hospital.
