UJA Young Leadership Mission
Is Scheduled for Late October
Israel — with all its magic from every moshave, every tree,
from Jerusalem to the Galilee....lt’s more than an adventure,
it’s a happening....
UJA Young Leadership
Mission, Oct. 22-31, 1988, is
the time set aside for the
Young Leadership Livnot Mis
sion to Israel. The purpose of
this most exciting mission is
to help develop an understand
ing of what is actually happen
ing in Israel and how young
leaders of our local Federation
and the UJA can most effec
tively serve Israel’s ever
changing needs.
This unique mission will
combine touring and program
ming and even include recre
ation. It will seek to explain
and give an in-depth aware
ness of the Israel of today, in
cluding special attention to
the crises that have raged in
the headlines.
Mission Highlights
• Individualized Program
ming: First time mission; Ar
chaeology; Security needs.
The mission will divide in
to three separate program
groups. The first track will be
for the first-time Israel mission
participant. It wiU focus on
the sites in Tel Aviv and
Jerusalem that need to be seen
as well as a visit to Masada.
The second track wiU focus on
the archaeology of Israel and
will include the intense experi
ence of participating in an ar
chaeological dig in Israel. The
third track will focus on
Israel’s security needs and will,
through people-to-people con
tacts, provide an in-depth view
of Israel’s security decisions
during this difficult time.
• Negev: Ben-Gurion said,
“Israel’s future is the Negev.”
The Livnot mission will
focus on the exciting things
Israel is doing in the Negev:
square tomatoes, flowers in
sand gardens, the problems of
freezing in the desert. The
issue of water and water con
servation that has made the
desert bloom wiU be studied,
analyzed and explained. Final
ly, we wiU share the experience
of the courageous farmers by
assisting in the fall planting
ourselves.
• Jerusalem: Politics;
Geography; Religious Conflict.
Jerusalem will be high
lighted by an in-depth ex
planation of the geographical
centrality and historical
developments of this city. The
deep rifts between Israelis will
be explored by visiting the
various factions in their own
neighborhoods. Opportunities
for discussion and debate will
be offered and fostered.
