In and Around
All About the
By Scott Snyder,
Program Director
The Charlotte Jewish Community Center as a
social agency provides for the social, cultural, educa
tional and recreational needs of the Jewish and sur
rounding community. Ongoing programs are planned
to provide opportunities for people as individuals,
members of families, and as groups, to grow and
develop.
There are specific goals the JCC implements into
the overall program operations of the agency. They
are to maintain and enrich Jewish identity, to
enhance social, personal, educational and physical
development and to participate in and contribute to
the quality of life in Charlotte.
When I think of JCC Programming, I think of four
key program areas: Informal Education, Social
Development, Family Life Education and Recreation.
Informal Education programs provide opportunities
for self-improvement and emichment to our members
and to stimulate leadership potential. The JC
is to expand our program offerings to meet tl
and desires of our membership all within tl
mal framework of educational progranuninj
Social Development programs are desig

participants involved. It is our intent to pro
periential opportunities for youth and adult
tions under the supervision of responsible ar
ble professional staff in a healthy, informal (
ment. Our objective is to place an emphasis
development of each individual we serve thi
satisfying growth experience. This assists c
ing an awareness and sensitivity to the n
others that in turn promotes new and lasting
ships.
Family Life Education is designed to prese
strengthen the family life and assist individi
feunilies in coping with the developmental st
life. Due to increasing economic and social pn
children especially, are more neglected today
